On Wednesday I did sit ups for the first time in ages....5 sets of 10 reps and loved it....I wanted to build it up by 10 each day and eventually get to 200.

I'm quiet big and this week has been my first week of exercise in ages and I've tried to push myself as much as I can and I was feeling very proud of myself.

Yesterday when I went to do my sits up, I did about 10 and I couldn't do any more, my stomach muscles had been hurting all day but I read a post that you should just push through it when your sore. So I tried and could only do 10- I was soooo disappointed in myself, but it's Friday now and my stomach muscles still hurt (especially when I sneeze) - should I just push through the pain tonight and carry on doing the sit ups?

To top it all off, we had takeaway pizza last night - and this morning when I added the calories into MFP it all added up to 1000 calories (just for dinner- crazy!!, that's the last time that happens). But I have to have cheat days otherwise I get all depressed and go into self-destruct mode and hit the biscuit tin!

was just going to post something similiar!! i had takeaway pizza and come in over 1100 calories for dinner, was trying to make excuses but there are none. had a crappy day etc etc but still not a good enough excuse. I wonder is there something with less calories that would satisfy the need on a day like yesterday - would indian/chinese have been better? ,
  • as the saying goes no pain no gain, but i would give your self 2 days out of 7 rest from exercise it gives your body time to recover and rest. as for the pizza its no big deal, tonights family night and we'll have takeaway while watching a film, ive added up my calories for the day and mine are over 2000 calories!!!!! but im not letting it get to me because i know in the morning i'll go and do a 5k run and eat sensible till next friday when im going out for my birthday meal.
im like you and need to allow my self treats or i'll binge eat

Apparently if you go for Indian and get boiled rice with a tomato based sauce it's OK- its what they recommend on the weight watchers website.

If you are too sore to perform the exercise, then you can decide to do other exercises until the soreness subsides. Squats are a good exercise.

As for "no pain, no gain," if it actually hurts, you should stop.

You shouldn't workout any muscle every single day, abs included. Remember, working abs will not flatten your stomach, it could actually make your stomach larger if you don't lose belly fat. If you're set on doing abs every day, do other core movements.

I read that when your muscles really ache you need to let them recover otherwise you could do damage. I think the whole pushing through it thing is for when you just mildly ache.
But the good news is when they do stop aching they should be stronger than before so you'll be able to do more sit ups again. (:

I split my body parts up into 5 days and I do abs on 2 of those days, I wouldn't do abs everyday, if they are sore make sure you have plenty of protein to repair and rebuild your muscle

    Thanks for the info guys.

Going to only do sit ups 2-3 times a week. I think I need to make a table of what days I work what muscles.

i know it sounds a bit boring bout how about having a salad with your pizza so you don't feel like you want so much but don't miss out? and don't beat yourself up about a bad day, you'v learned from it so it's all good. i have a take away once a week so better find out the calories now so i can plan ahead
