Almost 3 weeks in, and lowered my sodium.

I started using MFP on 01-09-2012, and noticed
right away my sodium intake was through the roof.
I knew the soup, pickles, along with other stuff
had a lot of sodium, but I never knew how much
was too much.

Now, after having an actual goal of 2500mg, reality
set in fast, and hard! I now come in below my 2500
goal, have lost five pounds during the process which
I know isn't a success on it's own.

I downloaded a free app called HeartWise, and this
was epic for me. (not the app, the numbers) :tongue:

01-18-12::: 138/95
01-22-12::: 134/89
01-24-12::: 135/80
01-25-12::: 126/79
01-26-12::: 110/74
01-27-12::: 131/77

I was only taking half my blood pressure medication
for the last week, trying to stretch it out until we got paid.
Usual readings for me would be say: 148/101 :noway:

I haven't seen my blood pressure this low since
I was in my 20's. (I'll be 40 on the 30th) I talked
with the doctor today, and she said to keep taking
half the medication, and to check back in 3 weeks.
If it continues, to stay like this she will knock it down
by half again. Heck, I might be able to go with out it! :drinker:

  • I think your progress is phenomenal. High blood pressure is NO joke. My husband suffers from it and while he has cut salt out dramatically, it stil creeps up and has to be on meds. My goal is to get him to loose weight and bring down his numbers.

    The weight loss too is great! Once your drop your sodium intake, their is less fluid retention and the pounds start coming off on that change alone. Add to that proper nutrition and exercise and they'll keep coming off!

    Thanks!

    To be honest with you, I had no idea on how
    much sodium there was in some food. Cheese?
    200mg a slice! I found a swiss cheese here that
    only has 50mg per slice. Bread, 250mg in 2 slices
    for plain old Sunbeam! Salsa, is 200mg in 2 tbsp.

    I'm going to make my own pico de gallo tonight,
    and will add it to my recipes. :drinker:

    Last night it was down to 108/68. BPM 99.
    (BPM seems high, but I was walking around prior)

    This was taken 2 hours after exercising
    for one hour, with an average BPM of 147. (157 max)
    Doctor said not to go above 150.

    According to this, my BP looks really good!
