So I just got into running long distance, I have been running (like a mile or two a day) for a couple of years now, but just recently started running 4 or more miles 6 days a week. I have always been a Nike girl and swore that I would never buy or run in anything else. Well, a friend of mine bought some Asics the other day and she kept raving about them....so I was at the shoe store the and decided to try the Asics Gel Fluent. I have to admit I was not expecting them to compare to my Nikes, but OMG I have ran in the three times and I am completely AMAZED at how much my running has improved. My knees don't hurt like they did and neither does my back! I will never buy Nikes again!!!!:flowerforyou:

I just bought my 2nd pair and I love them.. I felt the same way about new balance until I bought my 1st pair.0

Im using New Balance and I love them! I have no experience with any other running shoes since this is my first real pair but I have heard some great things about the Asics. I plan on checking them out when I wear out my NB's.
My husband is a Nike brand lover. He even has our little kids wearing Nike clothes and shoes...and of course they want to be like Daddy...so they "love" Nike brands, too.
I'm glad the new shoes work well for you. Congrats on your running. :flowerforyou: You should come join us at the MFP Runners Club We would love to have you.0 -
I am not a runner but I do walk a lot. Like you I've always depended on NIKE to be "my" shoe, but I recently bought some ASICS (I'm at work right now, so I don't know what kind) that are made specially for walking and I adore them!0

Thanks for the shoe review! I'm running in cheap wal-mart sneakers for the time being but wanting to get something good as I plan to keep this up!0

Curious, what made you think Nike made good running shoes? As a runner, I have known for years that they are on the lower end of the running shoe spectrum. NOTE: this is in no way an indictment of your running or on NIKE as a company, just a bland statement of consensus.
The best out there are usually the Brooks, Asics, and Mizunos, by most running site group standards, but at a certain level, it's all about comfort and support.
I have worn all three and usually prefer the Brooks (although I recently just bought a pair of asics), but it's really a matter of your foot liking the shoe you run in, and the feeling you get AFTER you run.0 -

Yeah, I agree with you here. I have been through two pairs of New Balance shoes, and just bought some Asics. I paid LOTS more for my Asics and hate them. I'm pounding the pavement in them though, counting the days until I wear them out. They just don't fit my foot well. I think it is simply about the fit, not the brand.0 -

I just bought my first pair of ASICS as well. Check out their web site if you don't like the fit. They make different foot beds to accommodate different arches and pronate patterns. From trying on different styles, I could tell a big difference and can imagine the wrong shoe would be miserable.0 -
I have Nike that I wear alot but I am not a long distance marathon runner...yet....I also have Brooks and I love them I just try to rotate between shoes.
I bought a pair of Asics for my son - they were on sale for $89 - within 2 weeks the sole was coming off - I emailed asics three times with no response - not a company I'll be spending more money with.
My daughter also wears brooks.0 -
I'm not a big cement/track runner. I enjoy running trails and the best shoes for that are Teva...they are wonderful. You don't have to worry about possibly slipping on leaves or rocks. If anyone runs trails these are the shoes you need.0

I love my Asics Gel Nimbus. I just bought my second pair!
I agree it is all about the fit for your foot. I wear dansko for everyday so nothing seems to compare to the support I get from them.0 -

I never was a big runner until couple of years ago and just recently started running distance, races, etc.. I guess it was just plain ignorance I didn't do any research and had worn Nikes all my life mostly because that is the brand of cleats and basket ball shoes that i had used in the past. Plus there is a Nike outlet like 5 minutes from my house.....:blushing: lol. I have heard good things about Brooks too, I was just amazed at the difference, I guess it really just depends on the person what shoe is right for you!0 -
I am on my 2nd pair of Asics and I love them!!!!! I always bought Nike's too and got blisters, knee pain, etc.
Finding a good pair of shoes that works for me has really allowed me to do more intense exercising and running!!!0 -
I normally run in New Balance but bought a pair of Asics Gel shoes and I broke them in with an 8 mile run (that might be the problem right there) but they made my feet hurt in a way I never imagined--I could hardly walk the next day b/c my feet hurt so bad. I'll have to try breaking them in alittle more slowly I guess!0

I JUST got a pair of Asics yesterday!!!! I was wearing Nike's as well and was having really bad foot cramps and pain in my shins and calves. I thought it was because I was just really out of shape. Yesterday morning, I was on Wii Active and just standing and doing my resistance training and my foot were killing me! From just standing, so I ended up kicking off my shoes and just doing the rest of the exercise barefoot and it was much less painful than having my shoes on.
After work yesterday, I tried about every single pair of shoes (within my budget) and ended up with the Asics that the sales rep recommended because of the gel soles...I wore them for a Zumba class and there was a DEFINITE difference!!! No foot pain and also less pain in my shins and calves!!! I'll also have to give Asics a two thumbs up!0
