Quorn Mince

Can anyone make this stuff taste nice???? Answer below with any recipe ideas. Thanks.

I have veggie daughters so when I'm making a regular ragu i make a second batch with quorn mince. I use lots of GOOD quality tinned tomatoes (3-4 tins usually) - it's worth paying extra - plus lemon juice, a stock cube, tomato paste, pepper, fresh garlic and finish with FRESH herbs when cooking has finished (basil and lemon balm/verbena). If you can bear the extra calories then red wine also perks it up. The mince absorbs quite a lot of fluid so you may need to add some water/stock.
I've never tried marinating the mince before cooking - that could be worth a try...?
Tbh, it still doesn't taste great but the tomato sauce is a good vehicle to get some protein into a veggie!

We use it for chili all the time in our house. Neither me or my girlfriend are vegetarian, we just like it because it's lower in fat and easier to cook from frozen. It tastes fine.
It doesn't taste exactly like real mince, you can tell a difference, but not in a bad way. Sometimes a difference isn't always good or bad, sometimes it's just different.
I was brought up in a house with 2 vegetarian sisters anyway so I got used to it.0 -
I use Quorn mince a lot, it's great for chillis, spag bol, cottage pie etc. The trick is to use lots of seasoning, herbs, spices etc. I love Quorn products, apart from the minted lamb-style grills which are forty shades of wrong.0

Quorn doesnt need marinating with meat as it immediatley absorbs flavours I love quorn anyhow for its versitility just cook with it as you would meat ... just needs heating and sauces/flavours added.
try the chicken pieces, mix with garlic, fresh ginger,spring onions, soya sauce , oyster sauce wrap in a low cal wrap with or without sour cream tastes delicious ... you are supposed to use beef but this works fine to my taste buds

Usually I replace the meat in taco with quorn mince, and just use a taco spice mix with it.0

Well actually when I say we use Quorn, what I really mean is we use the Tesco own brand alternative. It's considerably cheaper and tastes pretty much identical.0

I love quorn mince, easy to flavour with garlic, chilli and herbs, makes a delicious spicy mince.0

i love the quorn range the burgers,sausages even the veggie fingers and meatballs but the bloody mince and chicken is GROSS :sick:0

If you simmer it in hot water with some stock and any other seasonings you want to use the mince will absorb all the flavours. Drain it off and then cook like regualr mince.0

A lot of people dont cook it right or over cook. It is a great substitute in any meat dish and we use the quorn chicken for fajitas. You have to make it the flavor you want. It absorbs any flavor you add to it. After browning it let it simmer in tomato sauce and it makes an excellent sauce.0

I use Quorn mince when I can't get vegemince (the Linda McCartney one which used to be called RealEat). It's not as good as vegemince, IMO, and does have a certain taste of its own but honestly, make a good sugo (tomato sauce) for it and use it in lasagne, bolognese, or musaka, or spice it up for enchilladas, burritos, etc. and you'll be fine.0

I use turkey mince instead of quorn because it always tastes really salty to me and I hate that!! So my solution was to swap to a lower fat meat instead!0

What is quorn??
It's a vegetarian meat substitute made from mycoprotein (fungus). Tastes better than it sounds...0 -

Yes, don't overcook it. I make the sauce first and add the quorn last (except for herbs)

Frozen Quorm stuff looks like used cat litter. I dont think we will be getting it again, It was tasteless to us. We usualy buy extra lean steak mince from the butchers.0

We always used to use turkey mince, but the butcher we used to get that from closed down when the new market opened were we used to live. He didn't like being told he would have to work 6 days instead of the 3 days he was already doing and the rent they wanted at the new place was nearly twice the rent of the old place.0
