Simple Carbohydrate Cravings

I have been craving (and eating) sugar and bleached flour breads way too much lately. (Part of it is because I failed to make my own lunch to take to work, so I ended up eating cafeteria or deli food instead.)

How can I (or anyone) kick the sugar habit? Also, does anyone have any advice on how to banish sugar cravings when you fall off the wagon?

Thank you for your advice. :-)

Only way I found to do it is completely eliminate them for a week and concentrate on getting plenty of protein, fruit and veg, then start adding them back gradually. Obviously I don't want to recommend this - there are pluses and minuses to it - it's just what worked for me.

    Good luck!!

I agree with lat100 - The ONLY time I was ever able to somewhat control my sugar cravings is when I kicked them entirely off my diet. Of course, that was one of the hardest times of my life! lol But yes, getting a lot of quality calories from protein, fruits, veggies and whole wheat grains (brown rice, quinoa all the way!!) may help you in curbing your cravings, and will make it easier to resist simple carbs. =)

Other than THAT... maybe keep some healthier sweets within reach if a craving hits you? Sugar free hard candies, lollipops, candy canes... or even fruits, raw or dehydrated. Maybe some fruit with nuts? The healthy fat and protein in nuts may contribute to curbed cravings.

That's all I've got lol Good luck though!

I'm finding this hard too as I crave sugary treats and white bread. I've bought some 85% dark chocolate to have if I am desperately in need of a dose. I am going to try and eat more fruit to replace sugar and wholemeal bread and pasta 2-3 times a week.

Eat protein and complex carbs with a small simple carb like bananas or apples.
Swapping sugary food for natural fruit is always a better choice!

The purpose of phase one of South Beach Living is to get rid of your sugar and starch cravings--it really works for me. Look up South Beach Diet and eat from the phase one list.
