A friend of mine told me to try HCG. She says that it works on areas where you want to lose weight. Has anyone tried it and does it work?

Not a good idea. Do you know what HCG is? It's a pregnancy hormone. You don't mess with hormones in my opinion.

It also has been proven again and again and again to be ineffective in clinical trials.

Lastly, the HCG diet is a 800 calorie a day or less diet. These types of diets are dangerous unless closely supervised by a doctor. Even then, they should only be attempted by the morbidly obese. It is incredibly difficult to get the right macro and micro nutrients when you are only eating 500 to 800 calories a day.

    Please don't try it.

I'm not an expert but I am a Registered Nurse and I'm currently working with a Personal Trainer. I asked him what he thought of HCG. He had a low opinion of it because it fits into the category of "too good to be true." I've also had family members and friends who have tried it. If you do it right with proper guidance, you will see results but keep in mind, you will be on an extremely low calorie diet while doing it (500 calories). Also, if you have any health problems i.e. hypothyroidism, diabetes, etc., you will need to be very closely monitored as the weight loss and low calorie diet will impact your medication dosages. In my opinion it is a "trendy" form of weight loss but it is not effective long term as you don't end up making lifestyle changes which maintain your weight loss. I chose to spend my money on a really good Personal Trainer because it is important for me to make fitness a lifestyle for the rest of my life. But it is an individual choice.

Nothing can cause you to spot reduce... It doesn't work that way. We don't get to pick and choose where we lose weight from... our bodies decide where, when and how we lose weight.

I'd tell your friend that she is wasting a lot of money on a placebo and that she should stop now.
