As you may or may not know, I'm a high school math and science teacher. I decided at my current rate of weight loss, I wanted to see how long it would take to get to my ideal weight. This is what happened next.
(I got a line of best fit with excel, so I can't take ALL the credit.)
The line of best fit for my weight loss is y = -0.43x + 92.81
So, if I want to get to my ideal weight of 65kg, I need to substitute y for 65, and solve for x.
65 = -0.43x + 92.81
65 - 92.81 = -0.43x
-27.81 = -0.43x
-27.81/-0.43 = x
x = 64.674418604651162790697674418605
So if my weight loss stays at this rate, then I should be at my ideal rate in 65 weeks. I may give this to my class as an example. Lol.

Lol, I love this!
It's a great example to use, you can even ask them what the y-intercept means in this example - it'll give them something to remember what the formula actually means. I used to do some maths teaching and the kids really struggled with the concepts, and just ended up memorising the formulae.
You might never live it down, though!0 -
You might never live it down, though!
I'm already unpopular. I give them homework and *gasp* expect them to do it. :laugh:0 -
Seems terribly complex o_o. But, good luck anyways!0

I had to make one of these in my chemistry class the other day. It was more complicated then it looked! Nice job on it!0

This is great, I find any sort of maths that you can relate to is much easier to understand and stuff i still remember, just all the boring pointless maths that I have forgotten lol0
