Heart Rate Monitor Calories vs. Elliptical Training Machine

I just got the Polar FT7 heart right monitor today. I did 30mn on the elliptical machine for 30 minutes between level 8 and 9. I input my weight and age on the machine. According to the elliptical machine I burned right at 400 calories. However, the heart right monitor indicated that I only burned 300 calories. Which one is more accurate.? Then, I went to Latin Heat (aka Zumba) and burned 514 calories according to the heart rate monitor. Thanks for your help in advance:)

Go with what the HRM says, it's the more accurate of the two. I have a Polar FT40, don't you just love it? You're doing great!0

If the HRM settings are correct, for age, height, weight etc and you were wearing your band so you had a continuous heart rate, then the HRM is the most accurate.0

Hello there, good on you. Heart rate monitors are great. Did you enter all your details into the heart rate monitor?0

Yes, I entered all the information user information. I do like this HRM, it get me energized through the Zumba class.0

I just did 30 minutes on my elliptical and used my polar heart rate monitor. The elliptical said I burned 300 calories and the polar HR monitor said 514. I am going with the Polar HR monitor.0

I was curious, I am doing a medium level 5 fat burn for 30 min. on the elliptical and it says I am burning only 204 calories. But when I use this site for exercise and put my weight in, and elliptical time the caloris burned are much higher, what reading should I go with?0

I have the Polar FT7 also. I absolutely love it. I believe it is more accurate then the MFP and any machine's calculations. I have had some MFP calculations that were higher and lower than the HRM. I'd stick with the HRM. Best wishes on your journey.0

Are you putting in the personal stats on the elliptical? If I leave mine out it only accounts for someone half my weight and therefore FAR less calories. Then again I don't trust the numbers here either and take about 25% off for my own sanity.0 -
When I entered my stats, age/weight, and used the same program it actually show 40 less caloris burned! Oh my goodness, how confusing! I will just keep working out and counting calories to get this weight off. Thanks for your reply, and good luck on your journey!0
