Well, this isn't really a fitness or nutrition question, but it affects both of them. For the last month I haven't been able to sleep more than an hour at a time. I go to bed at a decent time, usually around 10pm. I don't drink caffeine late in the day, and i exercise at least 2 hours before I go to bed. After a month of this i'm exhausted!!! Does anyone have a magic trick? I try and stay away from sleep aids, but last night i caved and took advil PM.....and I was still up tossing and turning all night!

after posting this I started thinking about the time frame, and it started happening when I went Paleo. I wonder if anyone else had this problem when they started eating a paleo diet????

Sorry I too have very little good advice but am impressed with your weight loss :flowerforyou:

I can't imagine that the lack of sleep is very fun. Are you especially anxious lately? I know I can't sleep when I have a lot on my mind. But for this to be going on for so long it might be a medical condition that NEEDs attention..good luck

you can try Melatonin- it is a natural sleep aid- your body actually produces it- but some bodies dont make enough of it.
I take 3 mg a night and it works wonders... I get at least 5 hours in before I wake up- they sell 5mg too. some people suggest taking 1 about 1/2 hour before bed then leave one by your bed so it you wake up you can take another one- I have not needed to do that yet... best part is NO HANGOVER feeling in the am that I found with the "PM" meds... also with those you are taking meds you dont need if you arent having "pain" - my dietician suggested it to me... you might want to check with your dr if you are taking other meds just to make sure it wont interfer - but I feel so much better- and you dont get addicted to it... I dont take it on Fridays and Sat because I dont have to wake up at 4:30am - but I CAN sleep without it too- non habit forming...

    good luck!

Melatonin can help, also valerian root. If you snore or "snort" when you do finally go to sleep you may have sleep apnea or just "breathing cessation" which I have. No way I was going to wear one of those C-PAP units--who could sleep with all that stuff on? Fortunately I found a solution that works for me. It's a moldable mouthpiece I wear to sleep called Snore-Eze. I got mine thru Amazon.com but it's probably available other places. It holds my lower jaw forward so my tongue doesn't fall back and block my breathing in my sleep. When I wear it I get good deep (quiet!) sleep. Took about 3 days to adjust to wearing it.

    Thanks All!

I have to work out after my kids are in bed. I keep trying to get up in the morning to do it, but with sleeping so horribly I can't drag myself out of bed to do it. I do find that I can function on about 6 hours of sleep now that i've lost so much weight, as opposed to the 10 I use to need.

I guess i'll be heading to the store to pick up some melatonin and valerian root. hopefully one of those works.
