Water weight. How long does it hang around for?

Hey everyone,
Just a quick one really. Yesterday I weighed in at 204.4lbs. This was before I decided to take on a massive 12 mile walk, which left me so achey that I couldn't stay still too long for fear of seizing up. I stood on the scales this morning and now weigh 207.4! I know a lot of this is going to be water weight as I did go out to the pub last night but I ate sensibly ish and didn't drink that much alcohol.
Any idea how long it will be before I see a drop again? I know that sore muscles retain water to help them to recover so really I'm just interested to know how long I can expect this retention to last?

Hello,
Water weight will drop as you decrease your salt intake and drink more water. Funny thing, you have to drink no less than a half a gallon of water to lose water. Great job on your every effort to be healthy and fit!0 -
Water weight can "gather" for a number of reasons: Excess Sodium, Inflamed Muscles, Women Cycles, and Fatty Food Digestion.
So, honestly, it depends. It seems that you might have a combination of two or three of the above. Best guess is a 3-10 days.
Keep in mind over the next few days your sodium intake and your muscles stretches and recovery.
Hope this helps!0 -
Thanks guys! Just what I needed to hear. I don't go to the pub very often anymore and I'm not a big alcohol drinker either, but I was a bit bummed to see the 3lb increase
However it was a special occasion, in the UK especially it's not everyday you can go to your local pub to see the WWE Royal Rumble. Basically the only times I go there it's to watch the PPV's which save me money at home and are once every 4 weeks or so, so I consider them a treat to myself.0 -
OMGosh you walked 12 miles!!!!! Who cares about the water weight-you walked 12 miles!!!!! Great job!!!! I walk 2 miles and think my legs are going to fall off-lol. The water weight will go away, I also find if I over do it with a workout and I dont exercise the next day on the third day I will drop atleast 2 or 3 pounds, I am not sure why this happens. Either way congrats on your 12 miles!0

I had this this week too! I gained 3lbs and I'm suspecting it's water weight. I ate a lot of fatty foods this past week and then last night I did 3 hours of home repair to prep my craft room for painting. But when I saw that scale, i wanted to punch a hole in the wall!0

Agree with the above. Also, more potassium.
You need to drink more alcohol that cuts water weight real fast lol.0 -
