Hi,

I have lost 35lbs since August 2011 and have have really cut back on the amount of nights I go out drinking, this is of the amount of cals I conbsume plus I was finding I would want to eat rubbish when hungover and not exercise as I felt so rough. I am now at the point though that I think where I have lost so much weight that my hangovers are even worse! Being honest I do like to party and realistically I probably drink the same amount as when I was bigger but I have to say I am now at the point where I think I could give up drink altogether but my hangovers are so terrible and its actually ruining the idea of going out on nights out drinking as I am dreading the hangover so much the next day!!

I know I should look at cutting down the amount I drink on a night out to take into consideration the weight Ive lost but I am easily led and start doing shots etc!! - My own fault.

The point of this thread is - Has anyone decided to give up drinking altogether since losing alot of weight and also when did you start noticing that drink makes you feel alot worse since losing weight as mine is 2 and a half stone!!!

x

I have lost a good amount of wieght while being a casual drinker. But i am now at the point of trying to tone up and get rid of the flab on my belly and i dont think i can unless i give up drinking. So for now i have stopped all drinking during the week and have a few on the weekends and yes in two weeks have seen a difference. Been tough to not have that drink during the week but it is paying off!

I gave up drinking because a six pack is more important to me than having a drink. Beside I get scotch and soda and didn't want the calories. I always feel better without drinking and you don't lose the next day and have to make up for your mistakes.

I onyl drink now once a month but stupidly I think I am drinking too much on the nights I do go out. I think I could give up drinking completly as I I dont really miss it on the nights and weekends that I dont drink now and like waking up fresh.

I think my friends will be shocked as I am a party girl and it will take a while for them to get me used to being out and staying sober!!

I am desperately trying to cut down my drinking as it really is just pure empty calories, thing is though, i gave up for 4 months or so last year and my weight didn't change at all. Maybe I was eating more, who knows!

I know I would lose more belly if I stopped but haven't but have started measureing out the right portions of wine so I know how much I'm drinking! A huge amount of the my calorie intake are from the wine and this being the start of my second week on MFP that can change.

I just drink less now . I drink vodka and diet coke and find that i can only manage about half the amounts i used to .I also stop drinking towards the end of the night and start on the water and this saves me getting the cravings for food on the way home . I like my few drinks the times i do go out just less now .
  • I'm drinking a lot less/not at all now that I'm trying to lose the "last 10-20". The alcohol sometimes undoes all my hard work! It's not a permanent removal but I'm definitely watching it.

Also, my tolerance is SO much lower now that I'm so much smaller. (At least that would make for cheaper nights though!) So two drinks does the job rather than four or five. :D

When you do go out alternate, one alcoholic, one not. Best bet would be water with ice and go with garnishes like lemon/lime wedges. Maybe a cherry or two. Dress it up asa much as you can, try to trick your mind into thinking wow this is a kickass drink.
That's all I got. But at some point I am sure you will be think before you put that drink to your mouth "Do I need to ruin all my hard work by having this drink, my body is worth more than this"
  • I used to drink quite frequently. 2 glasses of wine almost every night and when I went out, I'd drink maybe 5-7 drinks. That's a lot of calories.
I started really cutting back to maybe a glass of wine every other night and then I quit completely for nearly 6 months.
My wine was a comfort every night. I replaced my 'comfort' drink with hot tea. It relaxes me just the same every night minus the dehydration head ache in the morning.
I simply cut back because I didn't want to drink down my calories. I want to make every single calorie count. I, too, felt awful every time I drank. Not only physically, but I felt disappointed in myself. I would either drink too much or I would get the drunken munchies and snack.
I do allow myself to go out every once in a while. When I do, I plan for it and decide what I will drink for the night before I even leave the house. I also give myself a limit. I have water in between each drink to pace myself & keep hydrated to avoid feeling yucky. I don't order an alcoholic beverage with lunch or dinner anymore like I used to when out. I have a time & place when I want to splurge and those are nights out on the town.
It was weird at first but I feel better than ever now :)
I don't think I'll ever be alcohol free because I enjoy it but I don't think I'll ever be the binge drinker I once was.
    Hope that helps!
  • oh, and sometimes, if we are going out, I make sure to show up later than normal! It's nice to be cut off sometimes on last call if your will power isn't too strong!
