Plant-based whole foods diet... Help, please!

Options
I am interested in switching over to a plant-based whole foods diet and an looking for some direction from people who are already living the vegan lifestyle. I want to transition into it and I want to do it right. Can you recommend some reading and recipe books to help me find my way? I would really appreciate it. Many Thanks!

I don't really have a ton of information. I've been a vegetarian for 16 years and vegan-ish for 5 years. Just take it slow. Good luck!

I went vegetarian over 2 months ago and I have had some hurdles to overcome but I am getting used to the change now and so is my body. I would say if you are thinking of going vegan, start vegetarian. That way you are not cutting yourself off from everything all at once. Another good idea would be to cut out one thing at a time. Like, lose beef the first week, pork a week or two later and so on...
Also, READ LABELS! Learn what additives are not considered vegetarian/vegan.
Meat substitutes are really great when you are first starting out. Some really have the taste and texture of meat!
I have some awesome lists of veggie/vegan friendly options for foods you are used to and some great suggestions for veggie/vegan products!
You will be so happy with your decision to go veg!

Please feel free to send me a message! Would love to have a veggie buddy on here!

I eat primarily vegetarian, working to become more vegan. Here's a couple websites that I find really helpful:
    http://www.chooseveg.com/vegan-recipes.asp
    http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/
    http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes_menus/collections/healthy_vegetarian_recipes
    http://www.vegkitchen.com/nutrition/protein/

    Info on plant based diets:

My personal testamony is that I feel 100% healthier since I've switched to a vegetarian diet. I have more energy, my blood work is much better and I'm losing weight. I live with a full blown carnivore however he is supportive and has lost weight because of our improved nutrition. I'm not looking to convert anyone, this was the right choice for me. :flowerforyou:

There are a few vegan/vegetarian groups on here, that's a good place to get info.

I recommend the cookbooks Veganomicon and Appetite for Reduction - especially if you are interested in weight loss Appetite for Reduction is good because it lists calories and macros.

I've been on this path so long I can't really give you advice as to how to transition, except to have compassion for yourself and be open to the experience - it may be hard, it may be easy. And keep your convictions and your reasons at the forefront of your mind - just like you may remind yourself of reasons why you shouldn't eat that extra piece of cake, remind yourself why you shouldn't eat that hamburger (or whatever is tempting you).

You'll do great! Welcome to the club!
