Hi All!! I was wondering if anyone out there has used the FitBit and what they thought of it? I watched all the videos and read the reviews but I know how marketing fakes things. Any input good or bad would be appreciated as I am thinking of buying one. Thank you!!

  • I too have done the research. I would love a fitbit and woulds
  • i love my fitbit <3333 its amazing!
  • SORRY ABOUT THAT--I have a toddler that likes to pound on my keyboard..LOL. Anyway I too have done the research and would definitely be buying one if I could afford it. I do understand the gimmick standpoint as well. I feel like anything out there for that kind of money has to be legit and if it wasn't shame on myfitnesspal for promoting it. If you get one, let me know how you like it!
  • @Nikki--you are doing GREAT!!! How long have you been working at it?

I have also been considering getting one but not sure if it's worth the $100 or if I should get a HMR instead.

I've looked at them both and I'm definitely leaning toward buying a HRM. FitBit sounds great, but I like the idea of the calories I burn when I take the stairs instead of the elevator, or walk from the end of the parking lot to Kroger as bonus calories that help surprise me when I weigh in.

I LOVE mine. And BTW, it's under $90 on Amazon.

I love the sleep measuring feature, I love how it counts how many flights of stairs I go up ( I try to beat yesterday's scores), and the easy to read graphics on the website. Very easy to sync.

One downer is logging food. MFP is soooo much easier to log food. Fitbit's site has limited choices. And I'm not syncing the two programs because I only log significant exercise on MFP, while Fitbit counts calories burned all day long, for just stuff like walking to the mailbox.

I think it was worth every penny. :-)

I just received the Fitbit last week and have been using it. I love it! Being more concious of 10,000 steps a day really drives me and it logs my work outs at the gym which is great.

I LOVE mine. I love the steps counting and the sleep analysis every night is amazing! I can't say enough good things about it. I wasn't interested in a HRM and this is perfect for me. If you want an HRM then this is not for you. But as for counting steps and integrating with MFP, I couldn't be happier. It is the first thing I put on in the morning and the first thing I check is my data base! I wear it everywhere, except in the pool. Love love love it. ♥

Edited to say I log my food HERE, not on Fitbit. My exercise comes over here as I linked it to FitBit and vice versa. Just the coolest thing ever. I got mine for under $90 on Amazon.

Yeah I never thought about it that way. Definitely great when you forget to account for those kinds of things. I think I might have to go in the direction of the HRM (I'm thinking the Polar FT4). I also like the idea of having something strapped onto my wrist, that I am less likely to lose.

I have been using it for about a week. It is very small (good thing for me). I wear it on my bra. So far so good, to me the tracking of steps/activity seems accurate. And sleep tracking is great as well. The only thing that I noticed is that their "calories burned" seems a bit too generous. I have my fitbit linked with MFP, so I only pay attention to what MFP gives me. I really like MFP, and I really like Fitbit.... I just don't know if I like the two of them linked together. But that's something that you would have to decide on later.

    In summary:

Pros: Small, steps tracking is more accurate compared to traditional pedometer, motivates me to take more steps overall during the day
Cons: Tracks my bumpy driving as steps sometimes. Calories burned seems too high on Fitbit.

I love my fitbit. I just bought one 8 days ago, I use it everyday..it definitley makes you aware of how little we exercise through out the day. I love it and would recommend it to everyone!!

I have both the Fitbit and the Polar FT7. Love both. I enter all calories burned according to my HRM (for actual work-outs)and I get an adjustment if needed by FITbit in my MFP exercise section. All seems to work well.
  • I love mine. I received it as a gift -after a lot of hinting. I looked into the heart rate monitors as well but for the really good ones you need to wear it strapped onto you and they are a bit pricey. I like the fitbit because it is small - I wear mine on my bra as well. I wear it all the time except in water. I also like how it tracks your sleep and the stairs you climb. I am motivated to do more each day and even find myself going up and down the stairs more on purpose. I have mine synced with MFP and agree that the calories seem a little high on the fitbit, but I always try to overestimate my calories consumed and underestimate my burned calories. I also like the different reports and historical data you can get on Fitbit.com. It really helps you see how much you are increasing and helps motivate me to do more.
    Hope this helps!

i think i'm gonna have to treat myself to one this pay day!..
  • I really like my fitbit. I sync with MFP because of the food choices and I also log significant exercise on MFP. I love the sleep feature and the fact that it tracks all the walking I do. I accidentally left it on the charger when I went out on Saturday and my husband and I joked that it might start calling me, asking if I was okay! The only advice I'll give is DON'T GET IT WET!

  • @Nikki--you are doing GREAT!!! How long have you been working at it?

I've been back and forth with weight loss for years! I'm serious this time around though!! Been on the bandwagon since December 2011.
  • I am planning on buying something in 2 weeks I just don't know what. I have no idea how many calories I am actually burning each day and I think if I did it would help me get a better handle on how much I should be eating. I have heard of the fitbit, the body bug, and an HRM. Does anyone have suggestions as to which would be best? I know some people have commented on having to have a chest strap with some HRM's is this something that is bulky or is it wearable out in public?

I have had mine for a little over a year and seriously can't go a day without it! I nearly cried when I realized I threw it in the washing machine, as they aren't waterproof, but the little bugger survived! I highly suggest the fitbit...it's a really great tool!

Looking closely at the FitBit. Saw all the videos, and the positive reviews here have moved me. Not too many other guys here but maybe I haven't looked in the right place yet. Looking for other guys or gal pals to keep me nudged. And where do I get one of them nifty progress meters?

The Fitbit didn't suit me. I couldn't get it to record the miles I was walking, even though the step counter was spot on. I posted an item on my blog, if anyone's interested: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/PeeTeePee/view/why-i-returned-my-fitbit-193911

I have one and I love it! I've only been on it for about two weeks, but it really keeps me loyal to tracking my food everyday and going to the gym, I love seeing actual stats of my food and workouts. I think it's a great motivator, I hope the motivation lasts!
