Frustrated

I'm feeling so frustrated today. For the last week I've stayed within my calorie goal and I’ve worked out (primarily cardio on an elliptical trainer or outside walking) every day, yet I gained a pound since my last weigh in a week ago. I joined MFP and started taking my weight loss goals seriously at the end of October. Since then I've lost almost 22 pounds which isn't bad considering that I lost it over Halloween, Thanksgiving, my birthday, Christmas, and New Years. I have had a couple of weeks in which I didn't lose any weight, but this is the first week in which I gained some and it's so frustrating. I’ve been telling myself that it’s probably water weight or something, but it’s frustrating nonetheless. Has this happened to anyone else?

  • this has been my week, and I am totally feeling frustrated too, I have weighed, measured, and logged every bite, stayed with in my calories, and worked out every day and I gained a pound too! its so hard to stay motivated. Im sure if I just stick with it, I will level out (I keep thinking maybe its water retention.) I know long term what Im doing is best but I still want that validation of a loss every week! Im glad to here someone shares my struggle!
  • It has happened to me before I joined MFP. If you are doing any excercise that may be building up muscle you can experience a weight shift. You could have gained some muscle causing a slight fluctuation. Hang in there and keep with your schedule! I am approaching my venture as more of a life change than a diet. You will have those frustrations but don't let them get the best of you! Use them as motivation to show that stupid scale who is boss! Good luck!

I wouldn't sweat it if it is just one pound. It could just be a little fluctuation and you are still the same weight. Unfortunately, weight loss is never consistent and you won't lose one pound a week, every week. There will be stagnation and plateaus along the way. Keep eating right and working out and the scale will keep on moving.

Thanks! I feel better already. I just need to stay on track and stay focused. And yes. swpglfgt, this has to be a life change or I'll just gain it back like I did after losing it on low carb....

Something to look forward too - maybe? Last week I gained a little over a lb this week I lost nearly 6 so keep up what you are doing and it will turn around.
  • Probably your body's way of adjusting to the great weight loss over the last few months! Try changing the intensity/type of exercise you do or check your sodium levels - sometimes, a little 'change' to the body's routine (with exercise or food) helps to kick start the weight loss again. Yes, stay focused, you've put some good work into your journey so far.
