Silly chewing gum question

Ok- maybe I'm trying to cheat here, but should I log my sugar free chewing gum? (5 cals for 1 pieces?) Or should I assume I work those calories off by chewing it for an hour?

 I don't mind to do it either way, it's just one more think to remember to put in here. Thanks!

I'm hoping I burn it off by chewing it. I don't keep up with those little things like ketchup, mustard and chewing gum. If I notice that I'm not losing weight any longer, I'll probably have to start tallying it!

I log it too. It doesn't hurt to log everything.

  • I don't log gum but I do log ketchup, mustard and any other condiment. I consider those hidden nasty calories but gum is a freebie.

I don't log gum, I agree that you probably burn off those 5 calories in the chewing.... Condiments I log - those can add up fast if you're not careful!!

Yeah, it depends on what condiments. Most BBQ sauce is very calorie dense and I tend to eat more than I think I do, so I watch out with it. Of course, so is mayo. But I don't count ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, etc. Or any chewing gum, even the sugary type (which I rarely chew).

I found that the more fanatical I got with counting, the more frustrated I got and I tended to binge. But some people have to count it or it knocks them off the wagon. To each his/her own, eh?

I had the same delima the other day. My daughter asked for a piece of gum and then told me it had 10 calories. I had never thought about gum having calories and wondered if I should record it. I decided not to count it. I do count everything else because they add up fast.
