Just wondering how people post on the exercise journal their yoga and their pilates. I see that there yoga in the database but not pilates. Can I assume that pilates uses the same amoutn of calories per workout as yoga does? How do other journal it.

Thanks.

  • Great question! I did a 30 min pilates dvd today and I could not enter it. I just put it down in the memos/notes at the bottom to remind myself that I did it for when I look back on my notes for the week. But then I didn't count calories for it. Better to overestimate how many net calories I had than underestimate.

Talking about pilates/yoga. I would like to try to change my workout. Any good DVD suggestions?
    I just a beginner:flowerforyou:
  • Not sure if it's right or wrong, but I enter it under yoga when I do pilates too. Seems like it would be about the same. This probably doesnt' help, but if it's wrong then at least we are both doing it wrong...LOL!

I just purchased a set of 6 dvd's called Louise Solomon's Yoga & Pilates Complete Collection. The titles of the 6 are:

    Yoga and Pilates
Yoga and Pilaties Total Body Toner
    Ultimate Yoga and Pilates
    Yoga and Pilates Energizer
Yoga and Pilates Firm, Fit and Flexible
Yoga ad Pilates for Weight Loss

Each of the dvd's has anumber of workout sessions. I am going to give one of them a try shortly (just looking at them to see what one I want to try). I have tried the BIggest Loser Weigh Loss Yoga but wanted something different.. From what I have seen in looking them over, there is the regular workout and some one doing doing a bit of a modified version. I read about them on another site and they sounded interesting so I thought I would give them a try.

I just tried one of the DVD's. Personally, I loved it. It was very relaxing atmosphere, yet I worked hard. probably half the exercises were done with a resistance band. Here is what the back of the dvd said:

    DVD/Video 1 - Breakthrough Workout

Encompassing the flexibility, meditative elements of yoga with the muscle strengthening and toning of Pilates, following Yogalates will not only leave you looking your best but will improve your posture, strengthen your body and spine and act as a release valve against stress build up. Also is incorporated is a free resistant band that replicates the work done on the Pilates machinery. Divided into 2 x 25 minute workouts.

With a DVD extra corporate workout! A mini workout that you can do at your desk for revitilisation.
Great for beginners to intermediate (if you have never done yoga before this is the one to get)

Workout One: a 26 minute mat-based sorkout codussing on lying down and sitting up, the centre of the body, abdominals, lower back and pelvic floor muscles.
Workout Two: a 30 minute workout strengthening the midback muscles and spine, creating a great posture. Also concentrates on toning the arms, legs and behind.

The biggest challenge I had was the breathing. I was breathing backwards to what she was instructing. Yet what she was explaining and doing made perfect sense and when I was in sync with her I could tell that my abs were getting a good workout..

    Cheers
