One formula I've seen is:
Height(cm) - 100 = Optimum Weight (kg)
5'8" = 172.72cm
172.72 - 100 = 72.72kg or 160.3 lbs
This is used to by some bodybuilders to determine target weight for a lean cut.0 -

does this formula apply to both males and females? i am also 5'8" and can't imagine myself being at that weight.
p.s. i am currently 142.8 lbs and aiming to reach 1390 -
The 160 pounds for a female is healthy according to the BMI charts at that height(if you go by those charts), but at 160 and 5'9 I still had fat to lose.0

It seemed to work fairly well for me. At 5'4" I got a goal weight of 137 pounds. My actual goal is 140, which I think looks good on me.0 -
I think BMI is a good, flexible range to start; however, I like more muscle, so I'd always strive to be in the high BMI range with a healthy body fat.
The reasonable male spectrum for 5' 8" is between 145 and 170 - again, depending on your muscularity.
I am 5' 9" and my goal is a jacked, muscled 185 with 12% body fat. According to BMI, that's "overweight", so again, go with height weight but also body fat.
Your own vision and goal is really up to you.

or if you prefer...
Formula: weight (lb) / [height (in)]2 x 703
Calculate BMI by dividing weight in pounds (lbs) by height in inches (in) squared and multiplying by a conversion factor of 703.
Example: Weight = 150 lbs, Height = 5'5" (65")
Calculation: [150 ÷ (65)2] x 703 = 24.96

What's your body fat percentage and current weight? Age and height are less important than body fat to calculate ideal weight.0
