Hi, I love brown rice and there are three main ways I eat it.
#1 - Add a little stevia (Truvia brand from Walmart) and about 1 TBS. cinnamon and you get it almost like a desert that's really good.
#2 - Add a little sea salt, and some Heinz 99% fat free gravy in a jar.
#3 - Add soy sauce and a tiny amount of sesame oil along with some sauteed onions and its pretty much like eat fried rice from a chinese restaurant. Really good. (Add the sesame oil to taste - this oil is very strong so you don't need much at all. Maybe about 1/2 tsp.)
But basically with brown rice, just try out different things you like, especially spices like garlic and thyme and rosemary.
Hope this helps.0 -
I usually eat it as a side dish with broiled tilapia or chicken. But lately i have been mixing brown rice w/ half a cup of black beans. I add salsa and a bit of shredded cheese. You can even add some tomatos and onions or fat free sour cream. It sounds weird but its really good and satisfying... its like a little fiesta bowl! Also ( i just thought of this) to make it taste more mexican, you could add a few pinches of taco seasoning to the rice!
Another recipe i like is to sautee shrimp with a little olive oil and fresh garlic... then just season the shrimp w/ spices in the cupboard. Mix the shrimp and rice... very tasty!0 -

I have been following The Ultrasimple Diet by, Dr. Hyman since Feb. (42 pounds lost) he has a web site with some great recipes for cooking rice. www.ultrasimplediet.com/guide. I sometimes cook rice with chicken broth or veg. broth, but like his way even better. I also cook a whole pan of rice at once and then put 1/2 cup servings in baggies and then in a freezer bag. That way it is ready when I want it. On his program your main food is veggies and rice. I don't care for rice as a side but have learned to mix just about anything you can think of with it and have found it to be very good. An easy favorite is, 1/2 cup of rice, 1/2 cup of peas, olive oil, sea salt and basil if you like, then stir fry. Any vegetable that you like can be done this easy way and whatever spices you like, also beans are very good.
Good Luck. Try the freezing with the rice, it has helped me a lot to have it ready ahead.0 -
