20 Years Old - Looking for Advice

Hello there,
I'm 20 years old and I'm very tired of being over weight and unhappy.
I'm currently 212 pounds and 5'11. I've always been a "broad" build. But recently I've started getting a big neck and its affecting my confidence.
Having been in a relationship for two years, I found myself being complacent and not caring so much about my image.
As a result I believe I gained a stone and a half in weight.
Recently, I went through a bad break up and now I'm looking to get back in shape and start feeling better about myself.
I'm a University student, so in all honesty, gym memberships are quite expensive, and due to the pressures of work and exams, I might be unable to dedicate massive chunks of time to training.
Can any of advice me on what to avoid foods wise? Suggestions for good recipes that aren't too fattening?
I'm in University over lunch and I just looked at the calories for a sandwich, crisps and drink (thankfully chose sugar free water) and it reached about 650 calories! Any advice on what snacks to eat instead? If any.
I also wish to take up jogging. I begun tonight and quickly found myself out of breath. Any tips? And also, will jogging assist my weight loss?
Sorry for the essay.
Thanks

When I started trying to lose weight, about a year ago, I changed one small thing about my diet over the course of a month. The first week I quit drinking soda and fruit juice that was high in calories and sugar. The following week I quick snacking on "bad snacks" and went with healthier options like fruits, yogurt things like that. The next week I changed my portion sizes. This was very important for me cause I can't tell when I'm full which is a pain. The last week I make sure my sugar is low in everything, eat 4-6 small meals or snacks a day and quit eating out as much. After I did all this I switched my foods up by buying more grain based foods and food without a lot of chemicals.I live by a 80 20 rule, 80% of my diet is healthy and the other 20% is still healthy but can be a bit more splurging for say if I go out with friends or drinking or family stuff. It is easy to buy healthier stuff but is hard on a budget (I feel your pain) I started eating the fit and active stuff from aldi's (only place I know here that sells it) and it is pretty cheap. Farmers markets and thing are good for tight wallets as well. Hope this helps you and good luck with your weight loss, you can do it!!0
