there is a big difference between fad diets and eating disorders. eating disorders are in your mind, ive done plenty of diets like this and theres no denying you do put weight on if you randomly start eating normally again, but they work & if you do them carefully then it's fine. even britians fattest man had to go on a 500 calorie diet.
that man was over 50% BMI and under a dr's supervision. that's a different thing entirely.
i think that the OP should print off her diary and take it to her dr. are there signs of disordered eating here? absolutely. but i don't know her, so maybe she just thinks that this is the right way to lose.
if you put on weight like crazy when you "randomly start eating normally" this is 100% proof from your body that you've been in starvation mode. your body is storing up for when this happens again. this is why it ultimately makes it HARDER to lose weight and HARDER to keep it off.
400-500 calories a day w/o the supervision of a doctor is not healthy. it's not smart. it's not going to help you lose weight.0 -
You need to eat more calories and make healthier food choices.0
-
im not talking about literally starving yourself though.0
-
sweetie, you need to eat. you're trying to drive a car with no gas in it.
^^^ This. Use the amount this site sets for you. Your body is desperatly trying to hold on to any nutrition it is getting at this point. Your body needs calories for organ function, breathing, sleeping, walking, standing, thinking, etc., right now under 600 is not even providing for that. Staying too low will actually slow your metabolism down.0 -
You need to eat at least 1200 calories a day and exercise. Get some friends together and sign up for a fun class like Zumba or go to a gym and strength train to build some muscle to burn more fat. Good Luck0

Is this for real or a joke seriously? Eat more, eat healthier and throw in some exercise...simple.0

Troll = someone seeking attention??? Maybe someone and an accomplice?0

Just exercise and eat right. You will never get where you want to be just eating crappy food one time a day and not exercising. It takes time and hard work and there are NO shortcuts.0
-
You do need to eat in the morning to get your body going...think of it this way " you have all day to burn those calories off". If you only eat at night you sleep on them. I did the same thing and after fighting it for 50 years I'm finally getting somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Feel free to friend me.:flowerforyou: P.S. Do it for you (not boys...boys help but you always have YOU)0

well she asked a question and i answered from experience. this is a weight loss site not a site to ***** at people. my opinion, my experience, it works if you want a fast solution. if you want a permanent solution, probably not, but like i was a bridesmaid i did one of these diets for ages, yeah it worked for the wedding, after i went back to eating normally and yeah i put the weight back on but i always new i would, i'm not ill, i'm not dead, i haven't been hospitalised. so my experience was fine and that's all i have to say.0

Diets below 1200 calories can be done. You are correct. Usually by the morbidly obese and under the care of many trained professionals though.0

500lb man probably wasn't able to get outta bed and burn a single calories, whereas she exercises, goes to work, and school. SO her body is already burning calories. Needs fuel for her body!
Please don't take advice from someone who said they did this diet and it worked. Obviously they are back to lose the weight they weren't able to maintain after getting off the 500cal diet!0 -
I promise I'm not a troll guys, just confused about nutrition. I've read all of these post and I have decided to eat more at least 1000 calories a day and see what happens. I appreciate those that have wanted to help me. (:0

when i say i put all of the weight back on, i was eating 3,000 calories a day. so it's not like i was eating normally. when i was eating 1,700 calories a day i maintained the weight i'd lost.0

I have a six year old that eats more in one meal than you eat all day. What you are doing is dangerously unhealthy.
This! My almost 7 year old also eats more in one meal than you eat all day. Very unhealthy and no wonder you aren't losing!0 -
You have heard enough that you aren't eating enough...maybe some specifics would be good. Everyone's body metabolizes foods differently, but try dropping your simple sugars (sweets, potatoes, pasta's) intake. Replace it with some veggies and lean meats, mix in some whole grains like oatmeal or whole grain toast, and eggs, this will give your body energy without the simple sugars that cause fat build up. If you get a sweet tooth, grab a piece of fruit or dark chocolate (actually good for you, in moderation)
Also, the more you skip meals, the more it actually shuts your metabolism off and causes your body to store everything you eat...not allowing you to lose weight.
One more thing, drink a lot of water, maybe you just aren't recording all the water you drink, but the more water you drink the more your body can flush out all the toxins that build up in your system0 -

I'm not attacking you here but considering you now have 70lbs to lose how are those far diets working for you?
Look most of us are here because we've got screwed up relationships with food. I know I do. But encouraging someone to starve themselves (and someone who is only drinking green tea for a day is starving themselves) is dangerous. Does the OP have an eating disorder? I don't know, I hope not. But what she's currently doing is not healthy and setting herself up for years of issues. It's already not working for her.
Also using the example of Britians fattest man is infuriating. First that was would have been hundreds of pounds overweight. He needed to lose weight so he wouldn't DIE. OP is wanting to lose weight so she can look better. Two totally different situations. Your example he would have been under a doctors care. If the OP took her food diary to any decent doctor they'd be horrified. (also comparing someone who is a healthy weight, who potentially has an ED to the fattest man in England is HORRFYING)0 -
I do NOT support eating disorders. Quit being stupid and put some nutrition in your body, IT'S THE ONLY ONE YOU GET!
No one wants an unhealthy twig that doesn't eat. Pretty in on the inside more than the outside and your insides are saying "you're dying" because you're starving yourself. Grow up.0 -
no. i have 53lbs to lose, and really i only actually have 30 till im at a healthy weight.
& did i say i was still on one?
& i wasnt comparing her to britains fattest man i was saying even he went on one of those diets, no they're not recommended long term but you're not going to die from 2 weeks of eating 500 calories.0 -
1) more water.
2) you need to eat more than a couple times a day.
3) where is the 30#s you need to lose? You my dear look very healthy weight-wise right now.0 -

Good for you, and I'm glad you took the time to read the responses. Everyone telling you to eat more, including myself, is doing it for the sake of your health. If you have any questions, feel free to message me and I'm sure others will volunteer. I wouldn't advise asking any new questions you have in this thread as it will just become a huge debate very soon.
Good luck to you - hope to hear about you making some progress soon0 -

It's really sad when someone says they're desperate and will try anything to lose weight, except the approach that's right under their nose.
You're already on the site that will tell you exactly what you need to do, as long as you give it the right information. There's no need to make this harder. Eating more food will not only be way easier, but it will work better.0
