did i say i was starving myself. and the first entry from hers i looked at she'd eaten 600+ calories. that's not starving yourself.
  • there is a big difference between fad diets and eating disorders. eating disorders are in your mind, ive done plenty of diets like this and theres no denying you do put weight on if you randomly start eating normally again, but they work & if you do them carefully then it's fine. even britians fattest man had to go on a 500 calorie diet.

Poster above, you are completely wrong on advice that its fine on both of your posts, people are right to try to put her on a safe track, and that kind of a diet is dangerous for her health. She also asked for help, even she recognizes her diet isn't "fine", good job for recognizing this Natasha.

Natasha, I looked through a bit of your diary and eating like this not only will not get you enough protein and vitamins and minerals, but it will make you burn less calories as your body burns your muscle, and cause you to gain more weight later, and, worse, if you continue to eat like that over long periods it can cause serious health problems.

You can however turn things around relatively quickly by: eating fresh fruits and vegetables with a good source of protein such as chicken breast and fish for EVERY meal, at least eating enough to cover the calories MFP states, making sure to have breakfast, reducing the late night snacks and then be certain to exercise with strength training exercises. Having 4 smaller meals spread through out the day will also help. Because you already started dieting like you did, you now will have to go through a period of recovery, as your body is used to starving on your diet and will try to store nutrients both to recover, and in case you starve it again. So expect an initial increase in weight, this is normal. I would add some gradual strength training and make sure to eat those calories you burn too so your body can normalize and adjust at least a week! As you go through this period and gain some muscle back, then continue to eat at least the calories that MFP states and add 3x weekly strength training minimum, and walking daily 30mins ++ to bring a calorie deficit. You will also need to make sure your vitamin and mineral intake is satisfactory and adding a multiple vitamin daily for you at first is probably necessary, though later eating your vitamins through fresh fruits and vegetables is better. This WILL work over time, however your diet log is dangerous and ideally you should consult a professional for both strength training routine and a safe diet to review where you are. There is a lot more info you can use that will help you.

Ok, carry on then. Please go on more about how your MFP friend should starve herself because you didn't die from starving yourself before and that you put on all the weight you lost from starving yourself....really...go ahead, you look brilliant.

lmao, I think I love you

I had a problem like yours I was eating one meal a day and it was normally a small salad I went and spoke with a nutritionist and what she said floored me, start eating more 5 or 6 small meals at 200 to 400 cals a meal (1200-2400 cals a day) I was shocked when I stepped on the scale and had lost weight eating more, 10 pound in a week, I felt better ,and wanted to workout . I do wish you luck and hope that you reach your goals.

    Would you stop it, please?

When folks say "starving", they don't mean lying at the bottom of a well, having not eaten in days.

Even if it doesn't kill someone immediately, eating 600 calories a day will have consequences to their health that could very well lead to death. it is a slow starve.

Do yourself a favor and google caloric needs for organs. Your body needs more than 1200 calories to function. Now add in your metabolic rate and you burn more than that. Eating less than your metabolic rate will slow your metabolism which will slow your weight loss. Also, there is really only one sure way to increase your metabolic rate, it's called increasing lean muscle mass. Actually do some research and you will find out that eating more will allow you to lose more weight. Simply put ,food is fuel.

Well said. And on 600 calories, guess what you're losing? Muscle mass -- and fast. With very low muscle mass, you also have a very slow metabolism...and you find yourself in the OP's position: starving yourself and not losing.
  • Besides you not eating enough, what really broke my heart was that you said you want to get in shape so you can "love yourself more".... NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Please please please please don't base how much you love yourself on how you look! You will never ever be satisfied... TRUST ME! The hottest models out there are the most insecure. So, what does that say about having the perfect body = you loving yourself.

I bet you look at those stars like Mariah Carey and wish you looked like them? Did you know how airbrushed, and fixed up all those images are? The women you are seeing and wanting to be like don't even actually look like that themselves!

What helped me really actually be happy with the way I looked and my weight was was NOT looking at images like that, and figuring out how to be happy and content with JUST ME. I struggle with this still, but not looking at mags, watching what movies I watch (some are horrible for making you feel like you're fat and ugly), and really making it a point to not feed into the media hype of the "perfect body" helped me immensely with my self image. The second you start coveting what other women have is when you start depreciating what you have.

If you want to lose weight, lose just enough so that you are comfortable and happy with how you look from a realistic point of view! I bet you are an amazing person who has awesome talents, but your self image is just clouding your vision of how beautiful you actually are :)
