So... I have clinical depression which is usually made a lot better with exercise but lately I have been really down in the dumps.
Only eating ****, still exercising but not even caring anymore. It's just too much effort to even care about myself at the moment, all i wanna do is sleep all day.

HELP?!

On a semi serious note, somehow obtain the first season of Monkey Magic and watch it from start to finish. The father Buddha says "only a man who wants for no thing can stand in the middle of the forest and be happy". (This extends to us women too of course but possibly may not be able to overcome depression brought on by chemical inbalance).

Have you done much in the way of 'therapy'?

Needless to say, don't give up on yourself. Maybe take a break from the weight Loss (set your cals to maintenance, still aim to eat clean and do a little bit of exercise).

I think the best thing to do when times are tough is to keep on logging... I find that logging makes me concious of what I eat (though sometimes it also makes me feel guilty!) and that often helps me keep things under control.
If you don't feel like exercising, try to push yourself to do something (anything!) for 5 minutes - put on your sneakers and walk out the door for 5 minutes. Then if you don't feel like going any further, turn around, come home and feel good that at least you got moving. See if you can do 6 tomorrow. Or put on some music and dance for one song. Then if you feel like another one do it, if not, - hey you moved more than you were before!
There will always be good times and bad times... just hang in through the bad times and try any strategies that you have found to be helpful.
    Good luck!
  • Hi, I've battled that demon 'Depression Man; (and his side kick 'Anxiety Boy') for about 15 years... It is a struggle  . If I can offer anything, it is that you need to separate them both from you. Externalize them into no-gooders. They will do anything to stop you feeling happy :explode: , but it is not YOU that feels bad, it is THEM making you feel this way. I know how difficult it is to fight these guys, they will say so many things in your head to put you off. Lock them up in a cage! Kick their *kitten*! Prove them wrong by getting cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Take anti depressant medication. If you are, change it to another. DISCUSS this with a GOOD psychiatrist (not a doctor or counselor) I know the tag team Depression and Anxiety will be telling you right now not to do these things (they are very good at what they do), but don't let them feed you crap. Time to deal with them!!

I never wanted to take pills or have therapy, but 6 months of CBT combined with Effexor and Mirtazipine has change my life forever. Depression Man and Anxiety Boy are no more. They linger in the background, but when they try to influence me, I have the skills to fight back quickly

I have much experience in this area, please message me if you ever need help. I am a survivor. I also have post graduate education in counselling and psychology. I will help you fight this.

add me to the list of suffers

do you know if your depression is situational if so do you know what triggered it - it gives you a place to start to work on it

I am medicated and in counselling - due to having no family members to ask about my past (long story) my counsellor suggested a book to work with
its called recovery of your inner child
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Recovery-Inner-Child-Lucia-Capacchione/dp/0671701355
I have been working through this book and found it quite insightful and helpful for me

I have had days as dark as yours but not at present

if you can look into foods high in tryptophan

private message me if you need to download

    H xx

    This ^

if you have been doing well with the depression and suddenly it feels like its come right back look for the trigger. Once you find the trigger its so much easier to manage.

I had depression/anxiety for 13 years and (cross fingers) I seem to be really good atm but always keeping an eye out for things I know can trigger me.

get out of bed early, exercise, shower, eat a good breakfast, force yourself if you have to, the more you do it the easier it gets to crawl out of the hole, and your fitness goals will stay on track too.

I suffer from depression also and when it hits it hits hard..sometimes I realize I missed my meds or that i timed them wrong and its now effecting me. There right about if you can do one thing..do some excerise even if its a short walk. If your an emotional eater arm yourself with non damaging items in your frig and cabinets. Its one day at a time. Write your feeling down. And try to stay connected to others sharing your goal so you don't lose complete focus
