I'm going out to eat tonight and while I want it to be yummy... I don't want to blow a thousand calories. What restaurants and/or meals do you guys prefer when you go "out?"

Not sure what's nearby, but any restaurant that serves a salad is a good choice.

I look for protein and vegetables, trying to avoid fried foods and heavy sauces but sometimes that's tricky. Good bets are fish with roasted veggies, chicken with potatoes, or even fish and chips if EVERYTHING is fried. It's important to include satiating protein with your meal, and avoid the chip bowl or bread basket prior to eating.

I like applebees, chilis, pretty much any national chain that posts their nutrition info in the menu or online. Think about what you are craving and then look it up before you go.
  • I prefer just about anything that I can find the nutritional value for online. Some mom-and-pop chains can't afford it and thus don't have it.. and then the entire evening I'm left paranoid---scared to touch anything on my plate.

I try to check the menus (and my Eat This, Not That books. I carry them around with me at all times). A few restaurants I prefer to hit up are: Chilis, Applebees, and Olive Garden. When there, I usually get the under 1,000 calorie meals.
