Gripe about MFP food database - or is it just me? Please hel

I am still quite new here and I know I don't know my way around very well yet, but already I am wondering if there is another site that is better for what I believe I am seeking. Just the mere fact I can journal and SEE what I am eating is helping, but the task of putting foods in is tedious to say the least.
The amount of food 'saved' as recent is terribly limited. Why can't it save everything I add? It saves them in my foods and my recipes. Do I need to save every food as a 'my food' in order for it to stay in the database my journal shows me? Or do I have to continually go back and find what I ate 9, 19, or 29 days ago to add it to my journal again, because it has toggled out of the 'recent' category, and forget about having to find it in the main database - again!
PLEASE let me know the tips and tricks you've done to compensate for the limitations!
THANKS!

Nobody has had any similar problems, or can help me?
Seriously?0 -
I'm a seasoned user, and I'm not understanding what you're describing. When you log foods, the foods you haveeaten most recently for each meal should be easily accessible, and they don't (shouldn't) disappear from that list....so that's why I'm confused...
Would like to help, but not sure what you are asking, really...0 -
I feel your pain, but unfortunately have no solution to offer. It is a royal pain to look up foods. I usually end up having to look at another site to see which of the many entries for the same things here are correct.0

Eventually you can get yourself into a habit of looking at the calories labeled on the food you're eating and then you can see if the ones that are listed in the database are correct. Also the recent foods should have 4 pages of foods that you can go back to, I know there are some things in my recent foods list that I haven't eaten in probably 6 months. The "frequent' list is the one that has a very limited number of items saved to it.0

:ohwell: Sorry,I have had the same problem, and was surprised as well, when entering an item, couldn't find it,and KNEW I had entered it,Then realized it was in a recipe...oh, well..:embarassed: :yawn:0

I can enter all my food from a meal in less than 3 minutes ( I know, because I used to gripe about it, then realized it really wasn't a major issue.)
I've tried several other sites, and this one is still the easiest. It just takes a while to figure it out.0 -
every site is set up the exact same way.... if its saving them in your foods and recipes, its because you're somehow saving them there. to log a food in your diary, you go to food, and then click "add food" in your DIARY. dont go to the database. then you search for what you eat, add it and it WILL be in your recent foods next time.
it will only be in your recent or most used foods... anything that shows up in your meals or recipes is something you have to purposely add there yourself. it wont be there just because you ate it once (although it can be, if you save it as a meal)
if not, then there's some sort of error with your specific food diary... which i dont think is possible.
of course if you want to go back and log something you ate a month ago, it wont be there. but that shouldnt be a big deal because you eat it rarely...0 -
Oh,my Goodness, I did not realise recent had 4 pages!
I just checked,THANK YOU SO MUCH!!Life just got a lil easier:drinker:
I'm so excited....0 -
Whew, I am NOT alone...thank you all! I'm sorry my comment was snarky. I could not believe I was the only one! Now I see there are four pages too! YAY! I didn't notice that at the bottom before. I am saving more to 'my foods' for convenience, and am really finding the recipe feature helpful too.0

If you have a smart phone then just scan in the bar codes. Any site will make you add them. The interweb can do many fancy things but it cannot read our minds or see what it is we have eaten.
I have been on for about 3 months now. It gets easier. I plan my next day out every night. Then I don't have to worry about it the next day. I just eat what is on the list.0 -
I didn't know there were 3 pages either! Cool!
I have used Fitday for YEARS and I recently switched to MFP. I like MFP a LOT better0 -
@Tara, my hairdresser was telling me about Fitday, so I'm glad you mentioned it, and the fact you came back here. Four boys!? Wow, and I thought two girls were hard

*****EDIT: Why doesn't my ticker show up? Do you have to manually add the thing every time you post, or is there a place to set that automagically?0
