Can you still be good and go to a buffet?

I am possibly going on friday and need some ideas..what to look for..etc..i dont go to these often because i know what happens when i do..im finally dropping more inches, feeling sexier in my clothing, dont wanna use this as an excuse to binge (which is one of my bigger problems sometimes) and get off track.

I actually went to two this past weekend. I still lost my two pounds this week. I just picked out a few things that were my favorite and ate those. I also did eat slowly, like the other poster mentioned. I enjoyed myself and was not stuffed!0

I've done it a couple of times. Being here is Vegas buffet is anywhere and everywhere. What I've done is enjoy it and eat as healthy as you can eat in a buffet. It's just one day. It's not going to hurt.0

are you going to a chain restaurant? I go once a month, sometimes more to a Pizza Buffet place. I plan what I'm getting ahead of time, so I know the calories and I don't over eat. I eat a lighter lunch that day.
I have found that the longer I have been eating "healthier" the less I eat at buffet. , Because I feel sick if I eat even 1/2 of what I used to eat.0 -
I am no longer capable of eating the portions I used to, and so I think buffets are a waste of my money now. I avoid them, but it's because I'm cheap, not because I am avoiding any particular kind of food they offer. I just know I won't eat more than one plate, so why pay for it?
If the whole group wants to go, I will, and fill my first pate with salad/veggies/no calories. Then my "meal" plate with a reasonable portion of whatever seems yummy, and that's about it. It just seems wasteful to pay a lot for that.0 -
i went to a pizza buffet the other day, and looked it up ahead of time to see what the info was per slice. i stuck to 5 slices and a small side salad that i knew fit into my calorie count. if you are going to an asian buffet the beef and broccilli is usually a safe choice. of course stay away from anything fried or in a heavy sauce. start off with smaller portions and try to eat slow.

Lean unsauced meats and veggies are your friend! Avoid the carb-heavy stuff as it will be much more calorie dense.
Look for grilled chicken, baked or grilled fish etc.
Avoid red meats (higher calories) or if you want something with red meat, just get a small size of it.
Look for steamed veggies, especially green veggies.
Avoid creamy pasta dishes.
There is no reason you can't stay under your limit at a normal buffet.0 -

Can *I* still be good and go to a buffet? No, I can't. I have no desire for moderation in the face of such delightful gluttony. As a result, I just avoid that environment. More power to you, though.
It really kind of depends on the buffet. Load up on salad and veggies (mind the dressing), and there's usually at least one lean protein option.0 -
The buffet at our casino has a "Brazilian Night" which we love--they bring skewers of meat and seafood around to your table so once you've had your salad you don't have to get up and be tempted by other foods. Our buffet also has a lot of sugar free desserts--cheesecake, pie and cookies. I usually come out ok.0

for some reason when i go to the buffet, I only get one plate and thats it. I get a good portion of Protein/Slow carb/Fast Carb and call it a day. oh yeah no ice cream,cake etc;)0

I think it all depends.... I went to CiCi's (pizza) buffet last week and still stayed in my calorie range. Like others, I just looked up the calories ahead of time and knew what my limit was. Loaded up on salad with vinegar for the dressing. I was stuffed when I left and didn't feel at all like I missed out on aything. But something like a Chinese buffet. .... that would be near impossible.
If you have options such as chicken or fish and lots of salad/veggies you'd prob be ok. Just limit that dangerous foods to very tiny amounts and then you won't feel deprived but just a tiny taste of those things. FIll up on the healthy stuff.0 -
Also, before putting anything on your plate, walk around the buffet and see what is there and decide on what and how much you are going to have before your second lap.
It is too easy to take food as you see it, and pile it up on the plate but if go in with a plan you can get out without doing a lot of damage.

Most buffets have a salad bar so make a healthy salad and eat that first. Then go back for the hot food. And if they don't have a salad bar eat one at home before you go. Look for soups as well...tomato or broth based are best and have a cup of soup before your "meal".0

I certainly can't go to a buffet often, but once in a while, it is not bad. Chinese is my weakness, although there are some good "American food" buffets out there too. Start with a big salad if offered, finish with fruit. In between, go for veggies if available, along with the one or two things you just really have to have. Remember portion control on the less healthy stuff, load up on the more healthy stuff. Meanwhile, put an extra 30-45 minutes into your next workout time. Overshooting your goal isn't the end of the world. Overshooting it often, not good.0

I dont know if I could handle not eating the bad stuff...something i read a long time ago is eat a large salad when you get there (little or no dressing of course) this helps not eat alot of the bad stuff...
