I need to switch up my music on my ipod. I am going to start training for a half marathon and need a lot of upbeat music.

What do you listen to?

jog.fm lets you put in your pace and suggests songs accordingly.

Songs that get me through at the moment are Massive Attack by Nicki Minaj, Burn it Down by AWOLNation, Hey Ya by Outkast

As much as I enjoy listening to good music while I run, I recently read that our run training should focus on strides per minute. Apparently all of the best runners have a stride rate above 180 strides per minute. So now I listen to music that corresponds to my stride per minute target in beats per minute. Check these links out:

And apparently this program can analyse your existing music and tell you the beats per minute so you can plan your playlist accordingly:

Depending on my mood it could be Seether, Nickleback, Pink, Lady Gaga, Everclear, Barry Manilow or Abba.

If you run alot, like I do, music always get boring and repetive. (even if you have 100s of songs). I learned many many months ago that audio books are the way to go. It is so easy to get caught up in a good story while I am running. I read a ton anyway and now I listen a lot as well. I very rarely listen to music while I am running anymore. (and I run a lot)

This is actually my tempo playlist. I use it almost every run, and it's designed for 178-182 steps per minute.

TOTALLY AGREE. For my training I listen to audiobooks- just finished Tina Fey's Bossypants, hysterical!! For the actual race though, I like music to hype me up!

Ladies & Gentlemen by Saliva- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMlKmELIhgY

I listen to a lot of old rock songs - they're very upbeat. Try listening to Joan Jett or even Elvis. Also, The Pretty Reckless is good music to run to, as are a few Green Day songs. :)

I use mixmeister too and it is great. I ran my library through mixmeister, made a playlist of songs that match my strides per minute and my runs are like dancing now -- lots of fun. And it forces you to stay on pace. Main problem I ran into is Mixmeister doesn't recognize itunes format so you have to convert first, but I found a program that does that (and I'm not that good at tech stuff so you can do it too). I'm going to try audio books next.
