Hi Everyone...I'm bound to up my protein somehow! I'm heading to GNC after work, before my Weight Watchers meeting tonight. Can someone fill me in on a good protein source or brand in the form of shakes that you may have used that tastes good and can effectively help with my supplementation of more protein? Thank you...your help and advice is much appreciated!

PS - I'm not looking for a quick fix...or to replace fruits, vegetables and whole foods....I'm simply looking for an extra source of protein. Thank you.

Whey protein shakes are good to use after workouts to build muscle loss and continue calorie burn. There are many types of Whey Protein Shakes out there. I go to a supplement shop to purchase my whey protein shakes. I tried one from a grocery store and found out that I didn't like the taste as the ones from the supplement store. You will find the shakes from the supplement stores cost more. Jillian Micheals recommends Whey protein shakes in most of her books that she has written due to how they work with weight loss. I don't really know how to get into the details of 'how it helps' with weight loss into all the details. Just go to various body building or fitness web sites and read about the protein shakes. That will help educate yourself on the shakes before purchasing them.

Hope that helps you out some.

My absolute favourite is Promasil in Milk Chocolate. http://www.rivalus.net/products/promasil/ --- tastes just like a nice big glass of chocolate milk! mmm

We would stick to having only Promasil, but unfortunately it's a little pricey. So we also buy the Optimum Nutrition brand. My hubby loves the vanilla, but i'm not a vanilla fan. Extreme Chocolate is my fav from them and cookies 'N cream is a close second.

We buy it at GNC and not sure if you're in canada or not, but if so, i believe they still have a Buy 1 get one 50% off sale going on now!

Optimum nutrition chocolate is good. The best tasting one I'd say is "Syntha 6" vanilla ice cream flavor. It's like drinking a milk shake. Mmmm

Also, don't know if anyone's tried them... But Muscle Milk's Protein H2O is super tasty! ( and only 60 calories)

I have been using Amp Wheybolic.. the Chocolate is pretty good and supposedly taste better than most other shakes.. I'm pretty picky about drinks but it's not bad. The only down side is a full serving (3 scoops) is like 280 calories.. but I have found that I can use 1-1.5 scoops for 20g-30g of protein (which is what most shakes have) and half the calories.. add some skim milk for chocolate milk or mix in a blender with a banana and some strawberries for a low cal meal replacement.. It keeps me pretty full too!

**Edit** the guys at GNC were very helpful with figuring which one I needed.. I told them I wanted weight loss and muscle gain, and something low sugar and they suggested a premade shake and wheybolic..

I like GNC ProPerformance 100% Whey - Chocolate. Be cautious - some ot the protein drinks/powders have more carbs (I was told they are more like a meal replacement), so if you are looking just to up your protein - make sure you check the nutrition facts.

I use the GNC Total Lean Meal Replacement shakes, they are yummy and are usually on sale, it says to put 2 scoops with water, but i only do one scoop and it is 90 calories 4.5 protein

Whey protein is good, but make sure you read all the labels. A lot of protein shakes are filled with extra fat, calories, cholesterol and sugar. It does no good if you're getting too much fat or sugar in them. And if you are someone who has to monitor your cholesterol, sodium or sugar intake, then be especially careful. You always can make protein shakes at home with silken tofu, fat-free yogurt and flavor it with frozen fruits, honey, peanut butter etc. and then you know exactly what is going in them. Same goes for protein bars when you make them at home. The packaged ones are usually full of sugar.
