Boredom Eating

I am an EMT and work 24-96 hour shifts. We stay in a house but have to be ready to go 24/7 so really hard to get any cardio/weight in. Yesterday I kept myself busy and did very well on my calories of 1200. Today we were very slow and I did everything yesterday and feel like I am starving. Of course went over my calories for the day. Tried to make healthier choices today. I went from 4,000 calories a day (specialty coffee's) to 1,200 and not loosing much weight (7 pounds in 3 mos) Are my calories 2 low? Suggestions for healthier snacks and meals? Suggestions on curbing boredom eating? I can use all the feedback.

I suffer from boredom eating as well..but prepping healthy snacks really helps. Try packing baby carrots r fruit n a portable lunch bag. So instead of munching on Cheetos all day..I munch on carrots & fruit so I keep my calories n check..0

Do you have access to a tv or any work out equipment? Maybe try something short, I've been doing the 30 Day Shred and its only about 25 minutes from beginning to end with warm up and cool down. If you get a call when you're doing it you could just pause it, jump into your uniform and go? I know firefighters are always wearing their gear, you have to have some time frame to get dressed don't you? Maybe even go for a walk around your station? Something is better than nothing.0

Oops the point of this post was boredem eating. I work 12 hour night shifts with a snack bar like 5 feet from me, its hard to avoid tempation. I will usually have something healthy to snack on, a bowl of grapes usually works well for me. What about carrots or other veggies? Generally pretty low. Anytime I want something bad I remind myself of what I really want, seems corny but its been working. I will pick up a cupcake at work and think what do I want more, this cupcake or a baby? (Thats the one that works for me).0

I have the Skimble Workout Trainer app on my phone, so I can fit in a quick 5/10/15 minute (or longer workout) - you won't be super sweaty and gross so you wont need ot shower right away if you can't, but it's good to get moving a bit - especially on a day where you don't see any time slot you can set aside for exercise. It's not going to burn heaps of cals, but it adds up and is better than using the time to eat!
Apart from not buying unhealthy snacks, the other thing I did was take up knitting - so when I'm on the couch watching TV I've got something to do with my hands, it keeps me occupied and I don't feel the need to keep reaching for food. Now I have a little box next to the couch with all the little things I need to fix, like buttons that have popped off or tears that need darning, and I work on those while watching TV so I can keep busy. Ironing works too!0 -
