Heart Rate Monitor v. Machine Reading

I purchased a HRM to determine how many calories I am burning per workout. As I workout I monitor my heart rate on my "watch" and also on the machine which I am using. My heart rate seems to match up with the machine, however the calories are way off! For example, today the machines I used totaled about 400-500 calories, yet my HRM stated I burned over 900. I definitely get a good work out in, but over 900 calories seems to be a bit much. Either way any opinions on which "calorie count" to believe would be much appreciated.

Does your HRM have a fitness test type thing when you first used it? Did you enter your weight, height, age, etc?
I have found the gym machines always over estimate by at least 25%.
You know yourself though and if you really doubt you burned 900 you might be right.0 -
I always find that the machine overestimates. My heart rate monitor is always realistic (until tonight!)
Maybe you should read into your model to see if you can program it. If not, see if you can return it for another?0
