Confidence Loss after Weight Loss??

I am just curious if there is anyone out there who lost a large amount of weight and a long with it lost their confidence. Since high school I had always been a size 18-20, I ended up losing 85lbs and dropped down to a size 10. I realize I was half the size that I was and I knew I looked better, I guess in a sense, but I could tell I lacked the confidence I once had. When I was a "big girl" I was very confident with myself in every aspect from relationships to career, but then when I lost all the weight it seemed as though my confidence was lost too.

I wasn't sure if this was common or it's just me so I was just wondering if you had this problem, how did you overcome it? Now that I gained part of the weight back that makes it even worse, but I working on getting that weight back off. I just don;t want to go through the emotional insecurities again when I do reach my goal.....I kinda think at times that maybe I used my weight to hide behind it with things and once I lost it I didn't have that excuse anymore.

I haven't, but I can understand it, especially if people start treating you differently.

I know my sister felt similarly after bleaching her brown hair blonde and got a ton of attention. She thought, "What a bunch of shallow jerks! I'm the same person I was with more pigment in my hair!"

Plus, having extra weight is like a layer of insulation. It protects us from others getting too close, emotionally.

How to get over it? I'm not sure, other than realizing you're the same wonderful, amazing person you always were. You're just in a condensed, ultra-concentrated package now.
  • I guess the main question is "what does losing your Confidence feel like'? Can you define the feeling?

I feel similar. I actually avoid dressing up becuase I get more self conscious when I know I look nice.
I shake and get really shy. When I wear a giant hoodie that covers me up, it's like a layer of insulation, like she said.
It sounds silly but it's very true. I hear ya! I don't know how to help really, but just realize that you deserve to look good, and you won't be noticed as much as you feel like everyone is looking at you- but when they do it'll be a good reason :)

I am 110% there with you! I just had this talk with a gf the other day! I was much happier and confident before losing weight.
I am not sure why but I just find im so worrying about gaining it back now that I let it rule my life... Which doesn't make me happy at all. I makes me feel like I am always having to worry... I also see more lumps and bumps now that im smaller. I look at myself and think i could be smaller.
I find my life is consumed with eating right and making sure I dont ever go back to where I was before !
