Hi All,
I have an end of Feb goal- to be 160 lbs. I posted in the motivation and support forum for a reason. (no negative comments desired) . In order for me to reach this goal, I would need to lose ~3 lbs per week.
Just wondering, has anyone been able to attain this? and if so, any tips?
Thanks pals!

Yup, I started in October and have lost an average of 4.7 pounds since. But, I will say that I started substantially larger than you, and I'm sure that makes a difference.0

you can, but as a fitness professional i wouldn’t recommend it.
but its possible if your maintaining a very good diet by this i suggest the mentality of eating 'natural food' so fruit veg things that come out the ground, and exercising a lot! a pound of fat is worth roughly 3500 cals, so you'll need an overall deficit of 10,500cals in a week so roughly 1500cals a day – this isn’t a concrete figure but it’s a rough guide. i hope this gives you a rough idea.....
however i would point out it wouldnt be realistic to continue this weight loss target for a prolonged period of time.... and weight loss will slow down.0 -
I've lost an average of 3 lbs, even now that I am hovering at 160. But, I am vegan, eat mostly whole foods and grains, and burn on average 1300 calories a day, sometimes more, sometimes less, but no less than 1000 since December. My aim is not to lose 3lbs a week, my aim is to be athletic and healthy, the pounds I've lost are just an added bonus.
That being said, try to shift your focus to looking a certain way, i.e. toning, rather than a number on a scale and you will more likely see success, as well as you'll see the scale shift also. Just, a number on a scale is not going to feel as rewarding as being more fit and looking better. Eat healthy, eat enough, drink enough water, and exercise hard but not passed your own abilities.
Hope that helps!0 -
Thanks all and Amy, if you noticed I said in my topic goal is for end of February. not forever, I've got other goals baked in for future loss.0

It depends on your current weight and your (realistic) goal weight. Weight loss typically slows as your near your goal weight and it would be difficult and potentially unsafe to try and speed weight loss. I would say focus less on the scale and more on how you feel, look and your clothes fit. Incorporate weight training into your regime, if you don't already. I would recommend the 30 Day Shred program from Jillian Michaels, as many people have visible results even with only a few (5-10) pounds dropped after 30 days.0 -
With only 50 lbs to lose a safe weight loss goal is 1.5lbs/week at most. Anymore and your deficit will be quite large and a large % of that 3lbs will be from lean muscle. This should not be a race, but a way of life and slower weight loss is more likely to be permanent weight loss.
Here is a guide for setting weekly weight loss goals, and with each of these you should be eating back the calories you burn from exercise:
If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.0 -
good luck, and thats awesome keep a positive attitude and you'll get where you want too0
