It's late at night, you've been good all day and now you're in danger of letting things go. What foods do you successful dieters resort to in that situation?

So far I've found celery and humus (105 calories) and an avocado half and salsa (145). That's fine in that I ususally have banked extra calories but it would be cool to know what others do.

100 calorie organic popcorn <-- delicious, and allows for grazing over a longer period of time.
Oats and Chocolate Fiber 1 bar <-- takes care of my chocoholic fix (140kcal)
1 tablespoon Natural Peanut Butter and 1/2 an apple <-- In addition to chocolate, I also have a peanut butter addiction (~150 kcal)

These are a few that have helped me, as I am a nighttime grazer. Hope it may help a little bit :]
  • I find that drinking extra water and having a tablespoon (or two) of peanut butter is sometimes enough to get me through. Unfortunately sometimes I slip up and just have to dust myself off and start fresh the next day.

Thanks, I'd definitely experiment with those, particularly the Fiber bar. I need a night time arsenal to keep me from blowing it.

As I think about it, peanut butter is something that I can't stop at a little bit. I have the appetite of a dog.

I keep fresh fruit and stuff to make a shake.
I also like those fiber 1 bars or Special K protein bars.
  • It depends on what I am craving... Animal crackers work when I am craving something crunchy like potato chips. They have a sweetness to them so they are good for the cookie cravings too. If you don't want to use many more calories get a cup of coffee, raw veggies, or low cal fresh fruit. For myself, I don't deprive myself of chocolate. Just know your limits!

Sugar free jello and these frozen fruit snacks I pick up near the applesauce in the stores... 10kcal and 50-80 depending on the flavor...

For chocolate fix, WW giant fudge bar or WhoNU cookies (you can have 3 cookies)
For salty crunchy fix, Special K cracker chips...you can have 27 chips & they come in regular, sour cream and onion or cheddar & I think one other flavor. Another great treat is Quakers rice cake snacks...I call the cheddar ones "crack" because it is hard to put them down.
    Greek yogurt and Kashi granola
Pop Secret 94% fat free snack bag popcorn
    Fresh fruit or veggies

If I need some chocolate I have a Fiber One bar, but most of the time if I get the munchies I grab some string cheese or some sliced turkey breast lunch meat. The higher the protein I can get the quicker I am satisfied.

I love this post. Depending on how many calories I have available I resort to:

    Mandarins (they taste so sweet)
    Fruit salad with low-GI yoghurt
    Muesli and yoghurt
Toast with vegemite (its an Aussie thing - but the taste of the vegemite turns you off the need for a sweet fix)
Omelette (filling - no more cravings)
    Apple
