How healthy is sushi really?

I love sushi. I could it it all day every day. If it wasn't that expensive, that is. So I'll try to have it about once a week. But how healthy is it really? The kind I usually get comes to

100g: 148 cal, 6.8g protein, 23.1g carbs, 2.9g fat
and a tray/ serving of 320g: 474 cal, 22.1g protein, 73.9g carbs, 9.3g fat

What do you think? I am still having trouble to put carbs and such into proportion. Is this a good meal of not?

Terrible meal, clearly does not contain enough sushi, add another roll or five

You can always get the no rice sashimi :)

And I've heard you can get rolls made with no rice and somehow rolled up in thinly sliced cucumber. Maybe request it? But... white rice once a week isn't bad at all, unless you have some medical problem. I wouldn't worry about the carbs.

Sushi is almost always my "cheat" meal where I don't count the calories! I just pig out on the fishy goodness and don't worry about it! LOL - I guess I just feel that if I am going to eat something that delicious I am sure as heck not going to limit or modify a thing!

    On a serious note:

There are very few foods that are "healthy" or "unhealthy" by themselves, the question is how the fit into your overall diet. There is nothing about sushi that makes it something you should avoid.

Kinda depends on what you're shooting for macro wise. I mean are you avoiding carbs? Are you not? Sushi w/ rice great for endurance athletes. Not so much for those going on low carb diets. Healthy is all relative really.

No, right now I am trying to stay under my cals, not over-do my fat and stay close to my proteins. i am usually under my carbs, so the sushi fits into my overall diet.

Thanks for all the answers, guys :)

Yes, I think it depends on the kind of sushi. It isn't so bad to consume carbs because you need them. In general, I go by what my diabetologist said which is that about 4 bread units per meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are okay for me. One bread unit is 10-12g of carbs. Going by that, the whole tray of sushi would be a bit much, seeing as it comes to about 7 bread units. The calories, however, are okay-ish for a meal. The question is if it satisfies you. Are you still hungry after eating that serving or do you go for dessert / something on the side?

nope, after that try of sushi i am all good for a long-ish time. i don't need a snack between lunch and dinner when i had that fishy piece of heaven for lunch. :)

Sushi is very healthy, the overall health value of it depends more on what kind of sushi, not so much the actual nutritional values, as those are pretty much the same. A tuna or salmon roll would be healthier than a California roll, for example.
