Advice from a trainer (I was evesdropping...)

So I was sitting on the couch at the gym yesterday while waiting for my friend to tan and I was listening to a personal trainer and her introduction and instructions to a new client. I feel like what she said was good sound advice.
She explained that we need to eat a big meal, either for breakfast or for lunch and that eating breakfast will kick start your metabolism for the day. This made sense, because I noticed that since I have actually been eating breakfast, I am almost starving before lunch even comes around.
She also said that it is okay to have one meal per week that is something that you just want and not to be hard on yourself because you had it.
Then for cravings, like a cupcake or a candy bar, she said go ahead and get it but take one bite, then throw the rest away.
There were a few more things that I honestly cannot recall at this moment, but as I remember, I will let you all know.
Also, if anyone wants another friend to keep up with and motivate you, add me. I am in East Texas and would love to find some ladies or men around here that are interested in maybe keeping up with one another in person or just on here if that is too much. I am ready to hit the ground running. There is no better time than the present!

Thats a bit of a waste... at least put it t the back of the fridge where you cant immediately see it when you open the fridge, or give it to someone else
maybe mail it to ethiopia.
poor lil cupcake will feel unloved0 -
Take one bite and throw the rest away? No thanks...if I'm going to eat something I plan to eat it....key word being plan.0

No way in hell I'd throw a cupcake out! I might eat it even if someone ELSE took a bite out of it!
I like mini cupcakes, because they're about 100 calories each. I'll eat two of them.0 -
That's the opinion that my friend had. LOL! Either way, I think the point is you just want to take the edge off of the craving, not overindulge.0

Thanks for this.0

Hmm, well I guess I can understand someone first starting out throwing food away because I think the urge to eat may be a little more overwhelming (That's just my opinion). However, I agree that is pretty wasteful (0

As for throwing away food being a waste just think that if you ate it and you weren't hungry or would put you over your calorie count it would be a "waist" as well.....or at least put on your waist!!! hehehe. Much rather put the waste in the garbage than on my hips!!!
But I also plan for calories like that so I can enjoy as well!!! I earn my splurges!!0 -
Lol, candy is my weakness so at work, yeah I can make a candy bar last a couple of days at least, but at home, eeekkk I just add it to the menu and plan for it's calories.0

The just eat anything meal kind of scares me. I feel that could set me back.
The other day on the Today show they had a nutritionist on and they were taking questions from people via video cam and one lady said she has been doing very well and is almost at her goal. Her question was how to maintain her weight once there. The nutritionist said to basically do exactly as she was but to increase two eat anything meals in a week. If she found she gained weight to put it back to eat anything meal once a week.
I thought that was interesting and proved that you really have to count your calories and exercise every day. Even when you think you are done
Oh, she also said you should be exercising at least one hour every day0 -
ill never understand spending the money to get a treat, taking one bite, and throwing the rest away. what kind of country are we in that we feel ok doing that when there are people on the street starving?
i agree with another poster - PLAN and eat the whole thing. one cupcake or one candy bar is not "overindulging". its called moderation.0 -
I am glad that this has actually become a discussion. I have avoided sugar all together so far and have found it very easy. I look forward to my protein shakes every morning though, they are delicious!! If you're curious, I have been drinking the Lean Shakes from GNC, either the cookies and cream or the vanilla, those are the only ones I have tried.
I am seriously looking forward to reading everyone's opinions and tips. Love this site so far.
Also, I am saving my "guilty eating" money and plan on spending it on donations for local food pantries. If I can't eat it, I will let someone. Plus if I ever do decide to have a sweet, I have four children who would be all over me wanting it so I won't have to worry about throwing it away!0
