Now so confused!

I bought an Polar FT60 HRM yesterday. When I started playing with it I found an awesome training program which told me that to lose weight I need to do medium to low intensity cardio for 6 hours a week... I found this to be CR*P and last night went to the gym and did my normal high intensity cardio circuit routine. So today I woke up and decided to at least try the medium intensity workout.

Info:
High Intensity Cardio
71 minutes (77% high intensity) and I burned 772 calories and 16% of my cals were from fat.

Medium Intensity Cardio
83 minutes (93% medium intensity) and I burned 774 calories and 25% of my cals were from fat.

Can someone please explain this to me????

I guess a better question would be is a 9% calories from fat difference and 12 minutes really worth my time???

High intensity is tapping into an anaerobic state (90-95% of max heart rate)
Moderate intensity is working within the top of your aerobic threshold (65-80% of max heart rate)
Low intensity is working at the lower end of aerobic (50-65% of max heart rate).

You get your max heart rate: 220-age

As a personal trainer, I look at the person and their workout history. Sedentary individuals would start at the low intensity and work up, someone who is working out I would put on a different program. Based on goal of weight loss, I would suggest interval training - moderate intensity mixed with short bouts of high intensity. For every anaerobic push, double that for recovery. Also, when you start interval training for the first time, back of the time - instead of 71 minutes, do 20-30 minutes.

Hope this helps! Feel free to email me with questions.
