Hi all, I'm new here and have found great support, thanks to all. Just wondering everyones take on drinking "beer' while on a diet. I was told by a dotor that alcohol was not bad if you count the calories but it was the unconscious calories that usually go with the alcohol that hurt progress.....thoughts??

I went from 298 to 241 moderately drinking beer.. I stopped a month ago and am 246... I was surprised, figured I would lose faster now that I eliminated all those calories. My diet is basically the same. Now I am losing again....0

I like beer. I just may only have 1-3 instead of 4-8 nowadays (excluding the superbowl). It definately slows my progress having a few brews, but if in moderation, keep track of the calories and work it off if you know that you're going out. Best of luck!0

Just had two beers last night. This isn't a diet... if you cut out something that you love i.e, beer you will feel deprived. You won't gain weight for having a beer or two every now and then, and you certainly won't stop losing weight if you have a beer. Just keep yourself in check.
Now, if you mean I beer as in I binge drinking a case of beer every weekend then maybe you should rethink things....0 -
I imagine, like anything else, you can have beer and still lose weight. I drink occasionally on weekends. I usually go for the lighter calorie beers or mixed drinks with diet mixers. And my husband has lost 60 lbs while enjoying Sam Adams.0

mmmmmm BEER!!!!!0

You can still have beer and there are some really good lower cal beers around. Living in NZ I drink Steinlager edge and at 80 calories a bottle a few beers is certainly not doing me any harm.0

Fine having it in moderation if you count it and don't eat a kebab afterwards lol. Zara x0

not at all. but I do like a couple on a Saturday night (3/4)0

some night I have a VERYYYYY low cal dinner so I can have some beers0
-
Do you drink light beer? There's low cal beer that's only 67 calories and it's actually pretty good!0

Beer, wine or liquor never hurt my progress but I don't drink each day and maybe not every week. However, tonight I have a bottle of wine with my name on it and a fun upday to boot!0

yes....Miller Lite or I tried Bud Light Platinum tonight.....delicious0

Have been if you like, just make sure you count it. I don't drink anymore mainly because I have a suspicion it's going to be detrimental to my workouts. That is just something I cannot have0

To beer or not to beer…, that is the question. It up to you how important your health is. Chose, but chose wisely.0

I love beer! my friends and I are avid homebrewers. Beer definitely contributed to my weight gain over the last couple of years. However, I think if I were forced to give it up completely, I would be really bummed out. So I try to go for quality over quantity, drink in moderation, and count the calories.0

I have wanted to try that. I see the alcohol content is higher so with my light light dinner and 6 of those I would be feeling wonderful0 -
I love beer....I don't drink much in the winter time though. But when I do I get Miller Light...yum0

Absolutely have beer... make it fit in your day... work out a little extra if need be... don't give anything up completely that you aren't prepared to live without forever...0

Bar wench I'll take a Blue Moon and make it snappy0

You like beer. Can you say no to beer for the rest of your life? If it's not something you are willing to give up forever, then there is no reason to cut it out of your intake. Otherwise you will drink it and feel guilty. Just make sure you are staying within your calorie budget and fulfilling your nutritional needs before consuming empty beer calories.0

I like beer, too! And wine.
Not a big drinker, but I do like one on the weekend at times.
I'm currently loving Molson Canadian 67.
Hello, i can deal with 67 calories for a bottle of beer.0 -
The Egyptians built all those pyramids while drinking beer everyday. Beer must be good.0

Beer is fine. Have one or two..... Every few days!0

I'm a huge fan of beer and red wine (especially in the winter). I have cut way back but I'll never completely stop drinking. I always make sure I log it. A lot of times knowing I'm going to be drinking gives me the incentive to exercise longer.0

Nice to see that doctors are sometimes right when it comes to nutritional topics. cheers, enjoy!0 -
I will add though that a potential bad side effect of drinking beer is that you are more likely to make bad food choices after drinking. Anybody that has drank will be able to sympathize with this. So that will be something to be conscience of if you do plan on drinking.0
