Do you have a "ladies only" section at your gym?

My gym does, and it's really nice. At first, I used to think that it's kind of unfair. Like, yeah, sometimes we overweight women don't want to be out on the big floor with all the hot people. We like a little privacy so we can flop around and look dumb by ourselves. But it seemed unfair, because it's not only women who need the privacy. Aren't their guys who are large and out of shape who would like their own little domain to go work out in away from all the buff guys and hot girls?
Why is it only women who get their special place to work out? Do any of you guys feel like you woudn't mind having a "guys only" section at the gym?

The place I workout has quite a number of locations and one whole location is women only. It is the location closest to my house and I do like it. I feel freer to workout with women only. Just my own opinion.0

Out of order IMO. Understandable but where do you stop?0
-
my gym is women only too, there are also other locations that are co-ed...I picked this gym because it is close and not too expensive...but the more I go the more I like the womens only aspect0
-
Yes! I go to goodlife fitness and they have a women only section and I am so glad! It's very nice too. :flowerforyou:0

No, I personally would never go to a gym that has a ladies only section just as I wouldn't go to a gym that had a males only section.0
-
The best gyms do indeed.
It's good for ladies to have their own area where they can sweat, grunt, look horrible and not feel pressured.
Let's face it.
When we get around each other.....well, you know.....:glasses:0 -
I go to our local YMCA and they have a large gym for men and women and kids over the age of 14 and they also have a smaller gym that is for woman and kids under the age of 14.0

The whole effing world is a mans world. A ladies only gym section is the least they can do. :happy:0

My gyms don't (3 of them). I don't think that's actually legal here. As much as I sympathise with some women's need for the privacy, I don't think it's fair as you all pay the same for your gym memberships and men aren't completely immune to insecurity either.0

My gym has a Ladies only section. It doesn't get used that much. There is not a Men's section, but I feel like the free weight area might as well be, haha. Its rare that women go there. Seems like most women tend to be in the aerobics classes, or the cardio areas0

My gym doesn't but I don't mind. I find it makes me work a little harder when I am watching some hot, buff dude lifting weights in front of me. A little eye candy does a workout good. Of course, it's a little awkward when you keep looking at one dude - then you run in to Wal-Mart after your workout and he keeps popping up in every single aisle you are in.....0

I wish I had those self-delusions sometimes. I was always self conscious about it, but that soon passed when I started throwing up more weight than some of the vets :bigsmile:No, we dont have a ladies only section at the gym... just as well coz i quite enjoy eyein up all the fit men gettin a sweat on... kinda horny lmao...... 9/10 i use my home gym though...saves on the frustration lol
I think it's safer for everyone if you workout at home0 -
My gym has a womens section and I use it, Its quite large, I've rarely seen women in the co-Ed section so it pretty much is a men's section lol.
I am VERY self conscious when I work out, even though im doing my routine the personal trainer gave me, and was shown how to do it all I constantly think people are looking at me like "what is she doing?!" I think I'm slowly getting more comfortable where if the machines were full I'd go to the co-Ed section to use one in there but the situation hadn't come up yet0 -
Mine isn't and I still absolutely love it
I really don't care what anyone thinks of me, my workout, my harry potter PJ's that I wear on some days and there are plenty of people who still say hi to me we talk about health stuff. I sweat like crazy from the oddest places and sometimes I will feel self conscious till someone I don't know says hi and you must have had a nice workout.
People are very encouraging (men and women) I don't think they are trying to hit on me or ask me out cause they certainly could have (wouldn't' have worked cause I am happily married). It is just encouragement and motivation for someone who is obviously working hard.
Loving my gym from the trainers to the members and all men and women too :flowerforyou:0 -
Good answers. I really like the ladie's section, because today I was on the treadmill going as fast as I can (3.5) and huffing and puffing and this gorgeous Soprano's looking dude about my age (40's) hops on the treadmill next to me and does about five minutes of stretches all over the arm rests before breaking out into a full-on run! I went on and did about 10 more minutes and he was still going like speedy gonzales, so I quit and escaped to the ladie's section. Then I went to the water fountain and lo and behold he saw me and started walking my way. I ran back into the ladie's section!
I love guys and all, but I'm happily married. He HAD to have seen my ring while next to me on the treadmill!
Anyway, thank goodness for the escape route! (to the ladie's section)0 -
I haven't found one in my area.. but that would be so nice to have! I feel much more comfortable working out with my lady friends. My work has a gym that we can use and since we get out of work at 4 AM it's never really in use so technically I really only work out with women anyways.0

"Let's coddle women's insecurities instead of helping them break through it."
This is said by a fat guy who has been pinned by a 95 lb. bench press before. Just for some perspective before everyone gets all pissy at me.0 -
Our gym doesn't, but at one point one of the Y's had "women's only" hours for the pool, where the doors were locked to prevent someone male from walking in accidentally. They were in a more Muslim neighborhood.0

I prefer a womens only gym.......but then again I believe men should have a men only club. where they can talk business smoke cigars golf swim etc.0

I really appreciated the women's only section at my old gym. When I was first starting to work out and was at my heaviest, I felt really uncomfortable and wanted as small an audience as possible. Now I work out at a community centre. It's co-ed but I don't care anymore.
I think it's nice when the option exists.0 -
My gym doesn't but when I first started out, I'd probably have felt more comfortable with one. I'd actually like a ladies only weights section because both the conditioning gym and the weights machines in my gym are always over-run with the kind of guys who draw their eyes off you the minute you walk in as though you have no right to be there, so I end up not using them because I feel too uncomfortable, even though I'd LOVE to get into weights.
I usually go to classes, though, and as someone else said, they're full of woman. I do quite like that environment where it is all (or mainly all women). Makes you feel more free to be yourself.
There is a whole chain of gyms here in the UK called Curves that are completely ladies only.0 -
the kind of guys who draw their eyes off you the minute you walk in as though you have no right to be there,
That sounds like your perception. Most guys that lift weights don't seem to have this mentality at all.0 -
no we dont we are all mixed together..i enjoy it..seeing all the muscle men lol and women0
-
I feel better working out around the guys..i feel like the women are the ones that judge me.0
-
Personally I like lifting around all the guys. Even though my body is not perfect, I am pretty sure they think it's awesome to see us girls working with free weights0
-
The gym I went to and worked at in my hometown is woman's only.
At first someone recommended it so I went and tried it, but I mainly stuck with it because it was a top floor gym, private and had 24/7 keyless access available, so it was mostly because it was clean, private and was completely empty if you went at the right time.0 -
we overweight women don't want to be out on the big floor with all the hot people.
Hey, just because I need to lose more weight doesn't mean that I am not a hottie too!!!
We do have a ladies only room, however, I work out all over the gym! I don't care. I am there for me & I hold my head high!
If the others do not like what they see then they don't have to look. Just my opinion.
We are all people trying to get fit & stay fit together! It's inspiring to me to see others in excellent shape :happy:0 -
Yes. We have a gym in our development that's attached to a water-park. There are a lot of children running around and it's busy. There's a secluded man area, and a little women's area. Nothing fancy, but to give some privacy and peace and quiet. Since I live in a family neighborhood/development, it gives the mommies some quiet time.0
