Not if that's your routine. Don't listen to those who say not to do what you want when you need to. Every body, and everybody, is different.

I have ballet classes that sometimes go to 9pm. Yes, I go to bed a lot later because of it, but my body's used to it.

I agree with slieber. If that's your routine, there is nothing wrong with it. I'm a night owl and do much of my working out at 9 or 10 pm. Working out at night is definately better than not working out at all!
Everyone's different and everyone needs different amounts of sleep to function...so just make sure you're getting enough sleep for your body.

I have definitely found that working out later at night gets me kind of wound up and it takes me longer to go to bed and fall alseep.

It really depends on how you feel. If that is really the only time that you have to work out, then try it for a few weeks and see if it works.

I've worked out as late as 9:00PM, but I don't usually go to bed before midnight.
  • eh i work out pretty late sometimes just because that's the only time i CAN work out. i'm too busy or too tired to do it until later on in the night when i get my second wind. haha after i work out at night though i usually follow it up with yoga or stretching and some breathing exercises which help me if i'm too keyed up.

I just got finished working out and it's 10:30 pm. I say late is better than none at all.

I like to work out late. I find after an evening exercise, I am able to go right to bed and I sleep great. I say do whatever works and is most convenient.
  • A trainer once told me that you need to exercise during every 24-hour period and it really doesn't matter when you fit it in - just that you do! I go to folk dance classes twice a week from 9-11pm and I love it! I shower and fall into bed - no problem going to sleep. I also walk with my friend at night (between 9 and 11pm) because we both are working moms and it's the only time we have. Try it and see how it works for you.

I had a friend who lost about 50 pounds in a year, who SWORE to doing push-ups and jumping jacks before bed. He attributed it to a good amount of his weight loss, swore it got his metabolism going before bed. If it doesn't wake you up too much to sleep, I say go for it!

To be honest, I work out all over the place, whenever I can get it in. Some nights I can't go for a run until after 11pm, but I still make sure I go. Then at the same time, some days I'll get up at 6am to run.
