Hello everyone! I have been sick the last few days with a head cold, headaches like crazy and my nose WILL NOT stop running! I was just wondering if anyone has any tips to get some exercise in when you are feeling this way? do you just work out anyways and just snot on yourself? or wait till you are better? But if this lasts for a couple weeks I don't want to give up that much exercise.

I'd hold off on the exercise for right now. If it's really just a head cold, the worst should be over in the next few days, and then you can get back to exercising. Let your body work on fighting the virus instead of adding the stress of exercise right now.

My personal journey is to be kind to myself and listen to my body. I take it easy on myself and allow my body to heal so I can get back to exercise quicker. I have experienced that when I try to work through it, it takes me longer to get better.

One thing you can do while you have some down time is some stretching. But most importantly getting the proper nutrition and staying hydrated.

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon. If you have a sore throat, there is a tea by Traditional Medicinal called Throat Coat that works wonders! OMG it was my saving grace when I had that head cold in December. It gave me around 3 hours of relief at a time.

If you're very sick, like fever and bedridden, take the days off from exercise and drink LOTS of water. Tons of water will flush out your system. If it's just a cold, nothing too serious, then light exercise is really great for your immune system. If you have the energy, just get in a brisk 30 minute walk, nothing crazy. That combined with drinking a lot of water is really great to help you fight off a cold.
My favorite thing to do when I'm feeling under the weather is to take a hot yoga class--I know that's not necessarily possible for everyone, but if there's a studio nearby they often will give you a discount for just taking one class and checking the place out. Hope you feel better soon!

Working out always helps me get better. So here's a nice rule of thumb that's served me well:

If you're sick above the neck (sore throat, stuffy nose, etc.) work out.

If you're sick below the neck (chest, pneumonia, etc.) don't work out.

Personally, I don't work out when I have an issue breathing. If I've got a head cold, I just relax until I'm able to breathe better because I can't get the proper oxygen when I'm trying to work out. On these days I just watch my calories and plan what workouts I will do when I'm better!
