I microwave 1/4 cup of frozen (homegrown) strawberries for 1 minute, mash them, add 1/3 cup uncooked quick cooking oats, 2/3 cup water, a little splenda and microwave for 1 min. 30 secs. I loveeee it!0

Also, have you tried steel cut oats? They are a lot better than plain oats. I make up a large batch that I eat on all week. I chop up an apple, add the oats and then microwave for a minute-2. Or I use frozen blueberries and do the same. I sweet with xylitol, as it may help with gum disease, which I have early signs of.0

I agree, I only eat steel cut oats now-splash of milk and tsp of brown sugar. Yum.0

cinnamon, peanut butter, raisins, cocoa powder. Alone or all together, it tastes great. Or if you want it more savory, an egg, scrambled, with a bit of black pepper.0
-
thanks everyone. i am gonnt try pb2 tomorrow morning.
PB2 and maple syrup - Yum!
If you have steel cut oats - you could toast them a bit to bring out a nuttier flavor. I use Coaches "instant" steel cut - these are already toasted.0 -
I like to add PB2 (powdered peanut butter) with chocolate. It's like 45 calories for 2 tbsp and adds protein as well.0

I only like groats, now (unprocessed oats). DS used to gag on regular oatmeal.
I make them in a rice cooker and have them programmed to be ready in the morning. We like ours with a little butter, cinnamon and brown sugar (a tsp is plenty).0 -
My two favorites are 1 Tbsp of almond butter and some kind of fresh fruit -or- fresh pumpkin puree, cinnamon, and a touch of real maple syrup.0
-
I make my porridge (oatmeal) in the microwave using rolled oats and water, then add skim milk powder, peanut butter and fruit - usually either chopped apple or banana. Cinnamon sprinkled on top is great too.0
-
When making old fashioned oats, I love chopping up bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and/or raspberries. A little teaspoon of vanilla extract and dash of cinnamon are essential!
If I'm in a rush, however, I like buying the Apples & Cinnamon flavored Trader Joe's Instant Oatmeal. Add water and microwave it. It has a nice flavor and tastes great without even adding anything! Highly recommend. Only 130 calories a packet.0 -
Blackberries! I toss about 6 to 8 blackberries into my oatmeal, and mash them right up. All of the oatmeal soaks up the flavour. It tastes really really good.0

I normally go through phases with my oats and tonight (yeah I had oats for dinner) i tried something new and I am in looove. I used vanilla whey, mini choc chips, White Chocolate Wonderful PB and some truwhip! It was RIDICULOUSLY filling for 555 cals. Seriously I'm stuffed now. Tasted like the most indulgent dessert EVER too.0

I drink french vanilla creamer in my coffee and I like to add a splash to my oatmeal, its delicious! One of my favorite breakfast foods, sound weird but give it a try you'll be hooked!0

Standard: 1/2 cup oats, 2 tsp raw sugar, 2 tbsp peanut butter
Enhanced: 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 banana (eat the other half), 2 tbsp peanut butter
Deluxe: 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 banana (eat the other half), 2 tbsp peanut butter, 1 scoop of chocolate whey protein0 -
Last couple of weeks has been blueberries (frozen or fresh if we have them), 2 tbsn of evaporated goat milk (found in baking section) and 1 tbsp of honey.0

Almond butter, blueberries, stevia, banana, cinnamon is the regular.
Or I got the carrot cake route! (Recipe:http://ohsheglows.com/2010/12/21/holiday-breakfast-in-a-jiffy-carrot-cake-oatmeal/)0 -
I used to hate oatmeal. It did taste like paste.
I've rediscovered that I like oatmeal from packets. At 8am at work. While I'm starving and have nothing else to eat. Everything always tastes better when you have no other options. lol.
I buy the apple + cinnamon kind from quaker. Love love love them! I add water and not much else. Oddly enough, I like my oatmeal thick, so I could probably slap up some wall paper with it.0 -
Depends.
I bought strawberry and vanilla oatmeal, the instant kind.
But usually:
scoop of vanilla protein powder and sugar free maple syrup
or 1/4 cup mixed berries and a tsp brown sugar0 -
I LOVE LOVE LOVE peanut butter and real banana!!! and a touch of honey.0
-
I've been cooking my steel cut oats in the crock pot with sliced up apples, brown sugar, and some milk replacing some of the water. It's yummy.0
-
Coconut and banana - awesome awesome. The banana fluffs it up when you cook it, coconut adds a bit of sweetness.
Also, a serving of pure pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. Tastes like pumpkin pie, PLUS you're getting a serving of fruit! (but I still think of a pumpkin as a vegetable) lol0 -
I use almond milk rather than water or regular milk. Throw in some raspberries and boom. Fantastic. Simple and fantastic.0

Unsweetened cocoa powder + Splenda + protein powder0
-
Option 1 - Cocoa powder, chopped almonds, flaked coconut, stevia, chia seeds (it's like an almond joy)
Option 2 - Maple syrup/brown sugar, apples, cinnamon, chia seeds
Option 3 - Dried cherries, cocoa powder, stevia, chia seeds
Option 4 - Throw an egg on top towards the end so it steam cooks, add some cheese and salsa... some people think it's weird, but if I'm not feeling sweet this is the way to go for me.
Have you ever tried overnight oats in the fridge? You can eat them cold or pop them in the micro for a few seconds to warm them up. Here's a basic recipe. http://ohsheglows.com/2010/04/08/easy-vegan-overnight-oats/
You can really play with them any way you want. It's just a matter of getting the right amount of liquid for how you like your oats. Also, saves time in the morning because you don't have to cook them0 -
I add 1 tsp of ground cinnamon and a tiny bit of maple syrup to it while it's boiling, then i top it with some brown sugar0
-
McCann's steel cut Irish oatmeal + 2tsp Domino light brown sugar (really :-)) I'm normally not a fan of oatmeal but this stuff is actually pretty good!0
-
This has given me an entirely new perspective on oatmeal, which I love. Thanks for all the input and I shall be trying some of these variations.0
-
I add in strawberries or almonds or cinnamon.0
-
I usually use Abundance Oatmeal or Raw Oatmeal, bot by Better Oats & dump Trader Joe's Handful of Almonds, Trader Joe's Simply Almonds, Cashews, & Cranberries, or Trader Joe's Handful of Omega Trek Mix in it. It's like those oatmeal "kits" you get from Jamba Juice or Mcdonalds for a quarter of the price. If I need the oatmeal to be sweeter I then add a Truvia or Splenda w/ fiber.0
-
My kids recommended Mrs. Butterworth's Maple syrup that is sugar free 20 calories for 1/4 cup. I just use a little and it gives a great maple flavor.0
