Why do you only get calorie credits for cardio?

I'm newly active on MFP and I don't get why a "strength training" or weight class would not give me any calorie credits. I just did BodyPump and I don't even know how to log it since I have no idea how many reps were done throughout the class. How are other folks logging these types of classes/workouts. Thanks!

I've wondered that myself. You burn calories lifting hard, and you even get "after burn" for several hours after, yet it adds nothing to your earned calories.0

I just started Biggest loser workouts. I am unsure how to log this so I use my HRM to count calories and log it under circuit training and adjust the calories burned by manually entering in the number from my HRM.0

you still log strength training under cardio and get calories for it.
the strength training part is simply for tracking reps.0 -

You can enter in your own exercise and calories burned. When you go into exercise there is a "my exercises" tab you can click on to create your own.0 -

I do the same thing with my zumba and weight lifting session that i do with my PT0 -
They also say that strength training under the cardio heading is not exactly accurate as far as the calorie burn. I log it though because it gives me some idea as far as what I am doing. Just log it as strength training under cardio0

I asked my trainer today did strength trainer. He researhed and told me that 1hour of strength trainer with low weights burn 500 calories and for 30 minutes you burn 250 calories with low weights.
I just started back strength trainer with my trainer last week and i work out for 30 minutes with him .0 -

Resistance calorie burn is too inconsistent.
There is little uniformity. Just take your best guess if you feel you just have to log it in at all.
120 calories burned for 45 minutes of resistance.
Or 150 or 180 or 200....pick a number that seems right.
I had to tweak my exercise burn numbers and nothing in any database worked.
All the MFP estimates were way too high for me.
I had to make some guesses, then make up my own workouts with a close calorie burn.
I found my "zone".
Sometimes that's what we need to do.0 -
Log it under cardio. there IS an entry for that.

Estimating the calories burned from strength training is very difficult because it depends on a variety of factors: how much weight you lifted per repetition, how vigorously you performed that exercise, how much rest you took between sets, etc. Because of this, we do not automatically calculate how many calories you burned from strength training exercises.
However, if you'd like, you can add "Strength training" as a cardio exercise to get a rough estimate of how many calories you burned. Please be aware though that this is definitely a rough estimate and can be fairly inaccurate.0 -
Strength exercises get your heart rate up but split up in repetitions and sets, its very difficult to keep your heart rate constant.
Cardio exercises get that heart rate up but KEEP IT THERE. Prolonged exercises gets your body pumping more blood, needing more oxygen and so you get a cardio response. That's key to any exercise that will help you lose weight.0 -
