I think the most obvious would be a protein bar? :P

    Maybe almonds or tuna?

LOL yeah that's true but I want something like real meat to put in a salad or something.

Also, I'm allergic to fish so might not be the best option

Been there, done this...doing it again...

Cook meat in strips, and make a roll by covering it with lettuce or cabbage. It freezes okay.

Next, depending on your diet, hard cheese sticks. Take super hard, aged cheese (that usually won't spoil quickly) and make cheese sticks out of them. Normally it's white and I use Argentina cheese (a trick I had when living in Brazil).

Finally, an oldie but a goody...broil eggs.

I stay away from any bars myself. Those stall my weight loss.

Ready cooked chicken is SO good! I use it in my salads if I've had a big lunch for a lighter dinner :)

i cook about 4 -6 pounds of chicken a week. slice them up and put them in containers or plastic bags for salads or in whole wheat wraps.

and hard boiled eggs are good too. make like 6-8 for a week. have them alone or chopped up in salads. eat the yolk.

Some of my favorite "portable" protien snacks include Jack Links Beef Jerky, StarKist Albecore Tuna in single serve cans, Hormel Turkey Pepperoni, protien bars, yogurt with Kashi Go Lean Crunch mixed in it and EAS proien drinks. After you get your microwave, try Michelina's Lean Gourmet meals! Here in Texas they are only $1.00 each at Walmart and most of them are less than 100 calories and at least 8 grams of protien!

    yum yolk!
i usually cook a load of chicken thighs/breasts (whatever's on special) on the sunday night but simply do not have time tomorrow morning before work.
  • There are also cans of ham and chicken flakes with the tuna - they are always good in a pinch! ;)

I live in australia and we don't have walmart here? :P
And I don't really like prepackaged foods anyway, I like making my own :) God that sounded stuck up, wasn't meant to :/

Good answer...Like it, never thought of it.

Yes, chicken or tuna (oopps no fish-sorry) in a tin or in a sealed packet! That's helpful. It doesn't spoil! Thanks for that!

In the states, Canada and Brazil you can. It's normally in a tin near the tuna. You should be able to find it in a packet too. What brands of tuna in a tin do you have there? I bet ya they have the same in chicken, albeit it might not just be breast meat, though.

lol i don't really like the sliced stuff too much sodium for me and i'm scared there's preservatives and "extras" in it, i like eating as clean as possible :P
  • chicken breast, turkey breast and even pork are all winners.

salmon is a good fish alternative, low in cals and high in protein and your omega 3's.

eggs are perfect - not only high in protein but super cheap too and you can make loads of different things with them.

greek yogurt is one of my favorites  just for a change from the meats; also, eggs ~ you can microwave them & use them on a sandwich flat for an easy & quick breakfast sandwich. I add a cheese stick sliced up & some jalapenos to mine & go!

You can also buy precooked chicken strips (usually grilled) at your store somewhere. I can find them frozen and not frozen (the not frozen I would assume near the salads or the sandwich meat). These are great ways to get it already cooked, without the added sodium a can would provide.
