Here I am, Here I lose!

I was always the skinny guy right up until I hit my thirties. Married, kids, content with my life and having a physical job, I never really had any issues. Then it happened. I was injured on the job with a hip injury and my life became very sedentary.
10 years later, here I am. Wow, 10 years. I am now self employed and the hip is probably as good as it is ever going to get. I have actually not had any pain in it for quite some time come to think of it. Now I am constantly refered to as the 'big guy'.
Anyways, I am overweight, tired all of the time, absolutely no energy to do anything around the house, with the kids, or even for myself. Quite a disappointment I have become. My life sucks and my family does not desrve this. I know who I am, who I want to be and how I want to carry myself throughout the rest of my life but this current situation I find myself in needs to change.... and it is about to.
So... overweight, smoke, no excercise, no cares with my diet. Truly sad. I am at 271lbs now and my goal is to get down to 190lbs in the end... I should say before I get to the end.
The journey begins right here, right now. I am looking forward to what Part II in my life will bring me.
I have to say.... I am greatly inspired by many people here, been through a lot of the before and during posts and I am very impressed. I am going to count on you to keep that fire burning underneath me hot.
Cheers!
My stats:
Height: 6' 3"
Current Weight: 271
Target Weight: 190
Current BMI: 33.9
Target BMI: < 20.0

Wow, you sound like me 7 months ago. I quit the smokes a couple years ago - which is a big part of how I got so heavy (cheated, used Chantix to quit smoking, it worked for me).
This works - but here's what happened to me:
When I started I was just dieting. Like you I was a really big heavy guy (270 pounds) and my calorie intake was about 2000 a day, and that was fine, I wasn't uncomfortable.
When I got to 260 MFP adjusted my intake down to 1920 or something, and that was lean but I was Ok. When I got to 250 it dropped me down to 1850, and then it was starting to get hard. When I got to 240 it cut me down to about 1780 a day and that just wasn't enough food and I was $&%in' miserable.
So then I went to Walmart and blew $300 on an elliptical machine, and now I'm doing 30 minutes a day, earning 400-500 extra calories and I'm feeling great and I get enough to eat and I'm still meeting my weightloss goals. I also really feel like I've made a real lifestyle change that I'll be able to sustain and not gain the weight back.
Anyways,,, I eat my exercise calories, and I do my exercise, and I'm making progress and doing great and feeling better than I've felt in a long time. I got my 34" waist jeans back (I was in 40's at new years')!!!.
Food for thought - this can be VERY difficult to stick with if you want to do it by diet alone. I found that I had to add exercise. A calorie deficit is a calorie deficit, and it can be done with just diet, but I just couldn't.
Works for me, and it'll work for you too. Welcome aboard and good luck.0 -
Thanks for your suppport, guys. CasperO, really appreciate your detailed post. I am definitely looking forward to putting on an old pair of 34" waist jeans!0
