He should go see a sleep specialist. He may have sleep apnea, which is very serious. One solution is to give him an air machine with a facemask. It pushes air and as a result, gives him better breathing.

Yes, sounds like it could be sleep apnea. As my husband gained weight, his snoring got from once in a while to all the frikken time. I was so sleep deprived! It took me YEARS to convince him to see someone, but he did and he had MAJOR sleep apnea. Now, at night, he wears a mask to give him more oxygen, and it's a nice white noise for me. Once in a blue moon he'll snore if he or the mask is in the wrong position, but it's rare and I elbow him and it stops. I can sleep again!

They best get it checked out, there are lots of health problems associated with it. Good luck!

Another option is to see a dentist and get a device that pulls his chin forward. He needs to see his doctor. Good luck.

My husband ordered a simple mouth guard on line. It moves your lower jaw forward and it actually works! Just google stop snoring and see what is offered. Of course you should rule out sleep apnea to be safe.

I have tried convincing him to go to the doctor but he's adamant he's fine! He's a very stubborn man and won't go for me

I was at the doctors with my hubby this morning because his snoring is driving me crazy. It's gotten worse over the last six months and he's gained about 10lbs in that time, not really enough to make his snoring worse.

I would definitely get an appointment for him with the doctor and make sure you go with him to give a full account.

Doctor said to hubby "So what brings you here today?"
Hubby points to me and says "She says I snore."
I spent the time talking with the doctor, not him. Lol.

Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be.

My hubby says the same about me. I didn't get checked because I felt fine. When I had to be tested for food allergies (by blood test) I found out I had 28 food sensitivities. Once those were treated - we all slept great. (I did get sleep apnea ruled out as well just in case - no machine for me!). Good Luck.

He's not fine. It's why he's tired or foggy or has headaches. It's slowing his weight-loss. If it really is sleep apnea it could kill him. Scare him into doing it for him. At least start with this self test:

When my wife started sleeping in another room I knew I had to do something about my snoring. I made an appointment with an ENT (Ear / Nose / Throat) specialist and he sent me for a sleep study. I had sleep apnea and chose surgery (Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty / UPPP) over the CPAP machine. BEST DECISION EVER!

I used to snore due to the throat blubber clogging my airway.
    I had sleep apnea.
Once I lost the weight - no problems!

As an apnea sufferer, I can tell you that your friend needs to start treating this right away. It's not cheap, but the prolonged effect of robbing your brain of precious oxygen is akin to the effect of blowing brain cells by doing hard drugs. Except you don't get to enjoy the high.

And seriously, all he has to do is fall asleep while driving ONCE and it could be GAME OVER. I was lucky and went into a ditch on a slow bend on the freeway. Had I fallen asleep at speed on the straightaway with no median it would have been a shameful end of life for myself and whoEVER I ran into head on.

I'd start shopping for a new house mate if he won't listen. Seriously.

I had a Cpap machine and they help. I don't have it anymore since I've lost some and let him know the lack of sleeep from snoring or Sleep apnea causes high blood pressure and greatly increases your risk of heart attack. It can also cause premature death at the hands of your spouse. I agree with the one poster. Tape him and play it back on the stereo durning his favorite programming or when he first goes to sleep. Maybe that will get him to rethink his stance.
