hi all i just wondered if anybody new of any subtitiutes or low cal version of bread, unfortunatly this is my downfall but i love bread but it bumps the cals right up, even things like bagels or pita bread have over 150 kcals, i know i will be told i should refrain from carbs but i have tried going a day without it and i cant. thanks

i cant seem to find anything close to the taste of a decent loaf of bread unless i make my own, so i just cut down on eating it and replace that carb with porridge for breakfast of a potato for lunch or rice for dinner.

once in a while its not bad for you. if you tell yourself to not eat it then youll only want it more. everything in moderation. x

I really like the light rye wasa crackers. Really bread is just a vessel for the toppings, so subbing in the crackers allows me to have those toppings! (I used to be all about bread... but I have given it up for the most part, except in french toast, as I really can't trust myself with it!)
  • Hi, if your in the UK then hovis nimble is great. Whole meal option is 51 cals pr slice and although they're smaller slices than usual I find having two slices with two eggs in the morning a couple of times a week is great- and that brekkie is only 250 cals!

I eat a fair amount of bread due to time and budget restraints! Today i had PB on toast and will have a sandwhich at work but i usually try to have bread for just one meal a day and choose a different type of carb for other meals!
I eat wholegrean with seeded bits, about 100cals a slice! I guess you just have to decide whether you can work something else out or live with the cal content. Thats what im having to do for now!

I find substitutes unsatisfying. I don't eat much bread as I find it makes me sluggish, bloated and i get a craving for more later in the day, but when I do eat it I tend to have home made.

For lunches (where in the past I might have a sandwich) I normally have Ryvita instead of the bread.

I have to agree with this, nimble is great, although I have problems losing half of it when trying to put spread on after toasting it's still a great alternative. I also don't think it's as thin as it used to be.

Get fresh bread MEDIUM SLICED : almost all bread is Thick sliced, 110-120 cals. Medium slice is only 80-90 cals a slice and is perfect for all your breaddy needs. Also, you get more slices per loaf. Bargain!

I have Danish bread from whichever supermarket I end up at. Generally tesco and it's about 55/60 cals a slice. I actually prefer it to normsl bread as I dnt feel do bloated.
  • Nature's Own 40 calories a slice in wheat or white is good.
