Thoughs on logging work-related "exercise"?

I'm curious as to how people go about logging incidental exercise as part of work?

I work as a physiotherapist (physical therapist to the US people) in a hospital, so I'm on my feet from when I start (830) until 12ish, then again from 1 until 5.
I sit down for about 10min per patient while I write their notes, but for the most part I'm with them helping them to stand /do exercise etc (i.e. resistance work as well, from dealing with their body weight), and also the walking around the ward/hospital.

At the moment I'm putting in 200 minutes at a "leisurely pace" because with that alone I supposedly burn 690 cal - i.e. already burnt my 500cal lunch alone!

I don't have a pedometer, and its not that I'm keen to capture every cal I spend, but rather I'm hesitant to believe the App and start to unintentionally overeat if it turns out its not quite right (in terms of the fact you should be eating your exercise calories)

Thoughts? :)

You need to adjust your activity level to "active", not count it as "exercise".

I dont logg work-related exercise or things like cleaning because I dont come short of breath or break a sweat, and I rather have burnt a few calories extra without logging them, then overestimating how many I burned and then overeat. Also, this is exercise thats been part of my life even before I started to count calories, so my body is already used to the exercise per say, nothing has changed that drastically changes calories burned.

Already have it as active - I was just checking whether I should be logging it as'exercise' because I'm on my feet for long periods.
There's days where I'm definitely dog tired by the time I finish work

Yep, I don't log housework at all, even if I sweat - but like I said before, I was just curious as to work because it is a few hours' worth of walking/ lifting etc.

Then nope. If you have it as active then MFP has already adjusted your intake for you.

Right, time to say goodbye to that icecream I was eyeing in the freezer, haha.

    ^^^^^^^^
THIS - it's not exercise but activity.

Most people logging house work or job related stuff are just looking for reasons to either eat more or not exercise.
    And they don't last long.
    Bottom line is this.
If it was such a hot form of training, why didn't it work before?
Raise your activity to the highest setting, but make time for real exercise.

Just clearing things up - I do still go to the gym and train as it is, but then I started wondering if I should be including that. That's all..

I agree with the other people here: it's already accounted for in your numbers if you're set to "active". HOWEVER, I will say that if I drastically exceed my normal activity level in a day (for example, if I have a very busy and active day at work and then I come home and clean for 2 hours and get way more exhausted than usual), then I will log what I feel is an appropriate amount of the "extra" activity. So sometimes I log cleaning, especially if I'm running around like a crazy person. Normally, however, that stuff would be accounted for in your profile already, so I wouldn't log it all the time. Good luck!

    That's good.
You are actually lucky in having an active life. Me as well.

I eat around 3000 calories daily to account for this.
    LOVE IT!

You have no idea how crazy I'd go if I had to sit still all day, 5 days a week.... I'm fidgeting during the 10 min I'm writing notes as it is.

And you must have an insanely high calorie output - MFP has my cals set at 1480, to lose 1lb/week
I'm within my "healthy" BMI range and I'm just needing to tone up and get some more definition rather than lose "weight" as such.

Are your activity settings raised to the highest level?

I just change my settings as I realized that I am burning over 1/2 of my daily calories while at work.

I only work 2 shifts a week in a busy kitchen, four hours a shift of charging around hauling dishes etc

I've been logging it as walking because I'm sedentary the rest of the time (student) unless going to the gym for my actual work out.

Since the work doe not affect my "every day" level of activity am I fine to log it as exercise?

I think I've got it set to "Active" - 2nd highest, I think?
I'm skeptical of how active I really am at work (its just walking with some moments of taking part of the patient's body weight - nothing extravagantly aggressive), and I rather be under than over.
Last thing I want is to put on weight

I don't include anything that i do as day-to-day living. My job, although sitting about all day does include a fair bit of walking, but I ignore that and do not input it. I only input activity or exercise as workouts I have specifically done or if I were to cycle to and from work or walk the 5 miles to or from work as they would not be normal for me to do.

You are already "active" so you must not put that as your exercise coz it will give you false sense of achievement.

I may start adding what I do at work simply because my job has changed this week to being more active.
