Semi-rant/whine.. I have no motivation, I have gained 85 lbs. from my lowest, I have bad knees, which have gotten worse because of the weight gain, I'm in physical therapy for right knee, doctor is suggesting gastric bypass.. also plantars fasciitis and tarsal tunnel in left foot bad enough to require a walking cast and possible surgery. The walking cast put me dead in the water, walking was one of the biggest things I did. i don't have a motivated, serious, workout partner, my eating has turned to crap because i'm always stressed, and hungry, and in pain. I seem to keep making these half hearted/half assed attempts to get back into the swing of things. The only pool I have access to, I can't use until 8 every evening, thats pretty late for me. Plus imma be honest.. the whole black girl, hair drying out, trying to to wash everyday, swimming cap doesn't really work thing, is hard. I work at 7 in the morning and have 2 children. I wish I had my own Jilian micheals here without all the degradation on tv to help me get in shape. Any idea's?

You bet! Get Jillian's book. It's great.

While you certainly have some barriers there are things you can do. Find workout dvds you can do. Pilates is a first stop. Created for injured dancers it helps build your core muscles which lines everything else up. Works fast too.

What else do you LIKE to do? There's probably a dvd for it:) Then when you can start walking do that. Add poles when you can (google nordic walking).

I'm surprised a doctor would recommend surgery when your diet is crap. If it’s crap now it will be crap later. I would think about addressing that first. Gillian McKeith, love her or hate her, has some excellent books out and a stellar website (if you want to pay monthly fees - worth it for the health assessement and the weekly menus).

As far as the Plantar Fascitis goes, I would think twice about surgery. I did research on this when I had Plantar Fascitis and many times, there is no improvement and sometimes things get worse. Are you seeing a podiatrist or a general doctor? Have you had steroid shots yet? Do you have custom insoles? The shots (it took two) in addition to the custom insoles cured it for me and I had a bad case (I do have a heel spur as well). As far as gastric bypass goes, that should be a last resort. If you are only "half-assing" it now, the surgery will do you no good. Try, really try to lose weight without surgery and see where you can go. I'm surprised that they are suggesting surgery given you only have 85 pounds to lose (yes, I know that's still a lot).

Having experience with Plantar Fascitis, I can tell you the best exercise I found was a stationary bike. There's no pressure on the heel. I have two kids and work as well. It's not easy. I have to get up at 4:30 in the morning to get my hour in on the bike. There's always a reason (excuse) as to why this can't be done, but in all honesty, it can be done regardless of the challenges. I have lost 75 pounds from my highest and still have another 100 to go, so I can relate to how the extra weight makes working out difficult. If it were easy, everyone would be thin. You can do this...you just need to really want it and go for it. If you want support, friend me.

I agree, I would like to add i DO know how to eat healthy, and I did for quiet a few years, recently with all the "issues" I let things like stress, pain etc; turn me back to candy, mcdonalds, pizza etc:.. A lot of it had to do with "comfort" and feeling hungry all the time, trying to eat healthy without all the exercising.. I could eat 2000 calories of all healthy food and still not feel full, still crave etc: be unhappy... why isn't food allowed to feel good :( i suppose i'll get it back together. 1 day at a time right..

I hate it when I don't get my butt up to exercise because I have to be so careful with my calories. Some people love to exercise. I love being able to eat more because I exercised! Baby steps, you're right, one day at a time.
