I've only been able to walk for exercise. How can I get strengh training in without going to the gym? I thought about joining but can not afford the fees at this time. The only piece of equipment I own is a treadmill. I really need to do something, just not sure what.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Try getting a Swiss Ball and a set of dumbells. Also I agree...resistance bands are a good way to go.

There's plenty you can do for strength training. You can buy stretchy bands to do workouts and also dumbells, they're pretty inexpensive. Also you can do tricep dips on the couch, or chair (where you sit facing away from the couch, put the back of your hands on the chair with your legs out and lower yourself down and up), push ups, squats, lunges, etc. Try going to shape.com or health magazines to get some more tips

resistance bands are great... i bought one that came with a chart of different exercises you can do and what muscles are targetted and it came with a measuring tape for only about $10.

Or you can always use things around the house (canned food, jug of water, etc).
