You know how they (the man) would always say baked beans are good for you. Surprise, surprise - they are good for you. I love that I just had one of my favourite all-time meals of a toasted baked beans and cheese sandwich and it was only 333cal.

Baked beans are one of nature's super foods. Protein, fibre, all that good stuff. The kiddoes slurp them up with smiles on their ketchupy faces, man how I love baked beans.

Only because it hasn't been said yet:

    "Beans, beans, the magical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot
The more you toot, the better you feel
So we have beans at every meal!"

Or Brak from Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast if you're so inclined:

"Here's a lovely song about my favorite food!
    Lima, lentil, soy and pinto
    Navy, northern and garbonzo
    Kidneys and frijoles negros
    I love beans

I love beans, woo woo woo
I love beans, how about you?
High in fiber, low in fat
Hey I betcha didn't know that!

When I eat beans, I sit in my own little cloud
Nobody comes to visit me, in my little cloud
I don't know why, maybe it's 'cause I'm cuttin' muffins
    Because....

I love beans, hey hey hey
    I love beans EVERYDAY
Beans are an excellent source of protein
    I love beans, dinky doo!"

Then you can just add salt to them later if you like.

I feel like such an idiot. I did not realize that baked beans were good for you. I have been missing out. My family will just have to deal with the side effects.

I wish I could find a kind locally that isn't loaded with sugar! I think the vegetarian ones by some off brand (Hannaford? I can't remember) has little to no sugar, and it's just a basic tomato sauce. I'll eat those! My husband is from England so he came over and here and was like "what is with all of this junk in your beans?!" haha.

You can make your own from scratch. Cheaper, healthier and you can use different kinds of beans for variety. You can also choose how much salt you use:tongue:

Edit to add: gas need not be a problem if you rinse the beans a few times in the soaking process and discard the water they were soaking in (use fresh water) before cooking.
