Burning, Painful Feet

Does anyone else have the problem of a burning, numb and then painful sensation on the bottom of their upper foot when excercising??

You may have ill-fitting shoes or your shoes may be laced up wrong or too tightly.0

ive only had this on exercise equipment, like ellipticals and treadmills. if im up on my feet moving around like doing aerobics or what have you it doenst happen. Im curious to know what it is also0

Tina I had that on the side of my feet when I did Zumba. Ni switched from running shoes to cross trainers and it seems to have improved.0

I have to buy good socks because of it ... it's almost like friction burn. Also, I second the above about checking that your shoes are fitting correctly.0

You may have a case of plantar fasciatis (sp?). Or you may need better shoes or should look at getting some inserts for better arch support. I had similar issues a few years ago. saw a pediatrist and got custom orthodiocs and have nto any pain since.

Sometimes cross - training...however, its mostly to do with poor footwear, normally too tight and bad foot biomechanics. See a running specialist to get fitted properly as will help doing ANY exercise!0

I have had it too.. when walking, cycling, etc... I got fit for proper running shoes and it helped when walking. I had to switch to a different pair for doing the elliptical and make sure they aren't laced too tight. Still working on finding the proper cycling shoes. It's annoying.0

I have it too. The cross training sneakers worked a little.0

I used to, try a really good pair of sneakers. I tried to save a little money and bought a cheaper pair of sneakers which turned out to be a bad idea. Also my feet go numb after a while on the eliptical, try reversing direction every few minutes to prevent the numbness. It worked for me.0

I used to have horrible, intense pain in my feet when working out (any kind of work outs, including strength training and cardio). The pain has subsided greatly as my fitness level has increased. I also got custom-made orthotics and a couple pairs of really good gym shoes (from a specialty running shoe store).
Also, when I'm doing the elliptical machine, I now apply less pressure on my feet when stepping (It's hard to explain, but I try to use the same motion on the elliptical that I use when walking, picking the feet up slightly in the "back" motion and pressing down with more pressure on the "forth" motion - I don't know if that makes sense, but I'm having difficulty finding a better way to describe.)0 -
This is an issue for me as well. I think due to my weight, the pressure on my feet makes it difficult to do standing exercises. I vary my workouts from recumbent bike to treadmill and on other days I'll do the elliptical for as long as I can take the pressure. I use arch inserts and use the motion that the previous poster suggested. Don't bear all your weight into one part of the foot.0

Thank you so much for all of your responses I will definitely look in to getting shoes that are fitted correctly. I think I am also going to make an appointment to see a podiatrist, so I will let everyone know what he says.0
